Sad but true....

Donald Trump is spearheading a white male movement to take back America — even though white men still own America — and people are dying as a result.

Robert Bowers, a 46-year-old white man, was arrested after entering Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill Tree of Life synagogue during Saturday morning services, armed with an AR-15 rifle and three Glock handguns, and killing 11 people before surrendering. He reportedly told a law enforcement officer, “They’re committing genocide to my people. I just want to kill Jews."

Gregory A. Bush, a 51-year-old white man, has been arraigned for the murder of two African Americans, Maurice Stallard, 69, and Vickie Jones, 67, at a Louisville-area Kroger supermarket in Kentucky last Wednesday. Reports say he initially tried to enter a historic black church, First Baptist Church Jeffersontown, after midweek services had ended — discovered later through footage from the church's surveillance cameras — but found the doors locked. He went to the grocery store, where he reportedly told an armed bystander, "Don't shoot me, I won't shoot you. Whites don't kill whites."

Often, I am ashamed to be a man. But then I realise that being a real man is to NOT be one of these fuckheads, but much more importantly, to speak out against them. Real men don't need to be neanderthal, gun-toting misogynists.

Trump more symptom than cause. The cause is multi-faceted, and you're not willing to look at all of it.

Do you feel validated now that I've posted in this thread for you?

Why are you so angry Jolly?
I know right? I don't believe Jolly is either jolly or Canadian. Russian maybe. ;)

And I don't believe you are a world traveler. Your mind is too insular. American maybe.

Had I not responded to this thread phands would still be a sad panda, so I was kind enough to do so, and give you another opportunity to lash out. You are welcome. I hope it made you smile.

Trump is fanning the flames for his own benefit.

That said, I'm curious what the "multi-faceted" issues are regarding the increase in hate crimes, such as the massacre in Pittsburgh or the grocery store shooting.

Trump couldn't have been elected 20 years ago. He made gaffe after gaffe after gaffe, any of which would have killed a political career then. Do you think he is a magical beast with devil powers, or had the political climate and public attitude about politics changed?

And regarding hate crimes, do you think they may be a bit over reported? Have you read Pinker? How much more common do you think they are now as opposed to 20 years ago? 10%? 50%? 100%? 200%? It would be interesting to see how our subjective estimates match up with actual stats. I definitely sense an increase as you do.

Do you think it may have something to do with the pushing of identity politics? White supremacy is an identity politics movement, right? So is nationalism. That said, i do remember mindless USA USA chants going back to the 80s. I wasnt living in North America then and we still heard the chest thumping across the ocean.

We already understand that Trump is the product of 40 to 50 years of right-wing stoking of racism (since Nixon) and 30 years of AM Radio / Cable propaganda.

The US has issues with race, but flat out hate crimes like the Texas murder of a black man pulled behind a truck, Matthew Sheppard, and the recent Synagogue massacre are ALWAYS reported.

Do you think it may have something to do with the pushing of identity politics?
No, not really. The Pittsburgh massacre was about Jewish identity politics?

What are you grateful for today?

Being alive, having adequate food and shelter, having universal health care with competent hospitals so I don't have to worry about getting sick and not being able to afford care, not living in a gun infested nation like the USA or Philippines, having enough money so I can sleep without worrying about being evicted, having a supportive family, having good friends, being a free thinking atheist, lots of things. My life is pretty good overall and far better than it was likely to be given where I was born. How about yourself?

The Pittsburgh massacre was about Jewish identity politics?

Well, if they hadn't been members of a discriminatory organization like a synagogue, which blatantly caters to a pro-Jewish point of view, they wouldn't have been shot at, since the shooter didn't target the local library's reading club which has a more inclusive attitude.

I know it's not kosher to blame the victims in today's PC environment, but the blame for getting shot here does rest squarely on the shoulders of the victims for helping to promote an environment of divisiveness and hatred.

The Pittsburgh massacre was about Jewish identity politics?

Do you think the Pittsburgh massacre targeted specific individuals and the others got caught in the crossfire, or was he targeting Jews as a group? Anti-Semitism is identity politics. I also think this was motivated by anti-immigrant sentiment, which is also identity politics. Maybe I'm wrong, but all of the reporting I've seen on this say it was about his hate for groups of people based on their identity, not on issues he had with particular individuals.

You seem to be equating bigotry with ‘identity politics’.

Bigotry is based on group identity. Identity politics is politics of group identity.
