Except the Brexit folks are probably still energized. We won't know until we know.

There have been two groups of protesters outside parliament for most of the last three years. There have also been a number of pro-Brexit and pro-EU rallies nationwide during that time. In all cases, the number of people prepared to get off their arses and attend these protests is a good indicator of how energised the support is for each side; And in the vast majority of cases, the Leave camp is massively outnumbered by the Remain camp.

Amongst the energised section of the populace, Remain seems to be well ahead of Leave.

How that translates to votes remains to be seen; But again, the impression given by the media is misleading - it's the viewpoint being pushed by a handful of aging billionaires with a massive vested interest in Leave.
BBC is showing long queues in the evening, so turnout appears to have been large. What'd be nice is a mandate to come from this. If Johnson gets a mandate, then fine... but lets get a mandate from the people. Honestly, if there is no majority, there should be no Brexit as the people would have said twice, "we are changing our minds".

Old school socialism is neither unpopular in Britain,
It may be popular in some quarters (esp. younger Milennials and older Zoomers) but hopefully it's unpopular enough to deny Jezza any shot at Number 10 despite unpopularity of Boris and Brexit.

nor a bad idea for Britain in her current state.
That's where you are very tragically wrong.

Corbyn is not, and never has been, anti-semitic. He is anti-Israel;
Of course he is. His opposition to Israel is a consequence of his antisemitism. He would not be attacking any other country for existing or defending itself against foreign aggression and terrorism (well, except his own, see Falklands War) and it is obvious he is singling Israel out because it is a Jewish state.

that's not an unpopular nor a bad thing to be.
It may not be unpopular - there are many antisemites in contemporary Labour - but it is most certainly wrong.

And he's not a friend of terrorists; He just takes the sensible position that dialog is a good way to resolve issues that are causing terrorism -
The "I just wanted dialog" is a dog that won't hunt. It's an excuse he came up with years later . His original statements made clear that
- he views Hamas and Hezbollah as "friends"
- he thinks they work toward "social justice and political justice"
- he thinks they should not be classified as terrorist organizations.
None of his backpedaling or you carrying water for him can undo that.

Hamas in turn also views Corbyn as a friend.
Hamas 'salutes' Jeremy Corbyn and thanks him for message at pro-Palestinian rally

and as the Good Friday Agreement clearly demonstrates, he was right about that.
Dialog with people who want peace can be fruitful. Nether Hamas nor Hezbollah want peace with Israel; they want to destroy Israel.

He is not only chummy with Islamic terrorists, he was also friendly with IRA terrorists during the troubles.

Your belief that Corbyn is somehow a disaster, that he is an anti-semite, and that he is a friend of terrorists, is a very clear indication that you fall into that class of persons who believe the tabloid bullshit about whom I was speaking.

Which surprises me not one whit.

I don't even read tabloids. Your belief that he somehow isn't all those things is a very clear indication that you are smoking some strong shit. Which surprises me not one whit.

In any case, we should know how this thing turns out very soon.

The Tories won Blyth Valley.

So that's the UK fucked then.

It's a shame, it was quite a good country while it lasted.

The forex traders seem to think this is good news.
Election results 2019: Tories on course to win majority - exit poll

BBC News said:
The survey taken at UK polling stations suggests the Tories will get 368 MPs - 50 more than at the 2017 election - when all the results have been counted.
Labour would get 191, the Lib Dems 13, the Brexit Party none and the SNP 55.
The Green Party will still have one MP and Plaid Cymru will lose one seat for a total of three, the survey suggests.
[...]
The pound surged against the dollar after the exit poll figures were announced, with sterling gaining 3% to $1.35 - its highest level since May last year. The pound also jumped to a three-and-a-half-year high against the euro.
[...]
It would be the biggest Conservative victory since 1987 and Labour's worst result since 1935, the poll suggests, with the party forecast to lose 71 seats.

I guess I was right about Comrade Jezza being unpopular. What now remains is the question whether he will do the honorable thing and resign as head of Labour and opposition.

Let’s hope he stays. Labour has further to fall.

It's not Corbyn that's unpopular. It's Remain.

The Labour swing in the North is to the Brexit party - not to the Tories.

Any unpopularity of Corbyn himself is based on nonsensical lies - which you are far from alone in having swallowed hook, line, and sinker.

These slurs cannot be true - I know people who know Corbyn, and these people are not in a position to be unaware of such things if they were true. But we live in a post-truth society, in which impressions formed by media moguls are more important than facts.

Right. The 11% swing from Labour to Tory probably isn’t due to Corbyn or Johnson’s personalities. It’s Brexit. Just like in the states there’s a political realignment.

Not buying that for a millisecond. The 2016 referendum was very close and Brexit became more unpopular as the details of what it would mean emerged over the last 3 years. If a Second Referendum were to be held today, I think Remain would win.

The Labour swing in the North is to the Brexit party - not to the Tories.
I did not say Boris is especially popular, just that Corbyn is especially unpopular.

Again, not buying that, and I have detailed why I strongly dislike Comrade Jezza. You can wallow in your delusions if you must.

As far as our own election in 2020, the Democratic Party needs to take a long hard look at the Corbyn debacle and realize that whom they nominate as standard bearer will most definitely matter.

Your 2nd hand anecdotes are contradicted by that man's public statements and behavior.

I used to have much more respect from the British. Then again, I used to have much more respect for my fellow Americans.

It seems to me the British Labour Party shares your lack of respect for the British people, and the British people responded in kind.

No, you’ll see, splintering Europe will harken the good ole days in the early 20th Century. #mega

There's an 11% swing from Labour, but it's not to Tory - the Tories are only up 2 or 3%.

Most of the Labour swing is to the Brexit party - which exists solely to split the Labour vote. Traditional Labour voters in the industrial and blighted areas, people who wouldn't vote for the Tories under any circumstances, have voted Brexit Party.

The result under IRV would be very different. But that's not the system they have, and the Tories are the beneficiaries.

Very much agreed. I'd add, that as far as I'm concerned, UK has decided their path. Brexit is settled. I just hope that the people quit bitching about it. Do it. Quit whining. Allow Scotland and Ireland (countries with young people who want a better future) to leave the UK.

And yours by the massive support he has from his constituents - people who are in a position to actually know the man, and whose interests he has been tasked with representing.

If he's as bad as he is painted (and as voters in distant constituencies clearly believed), then why did his own constituents so overwhelmingly vote to reelect him to parliament?

The way things are headed in Scotland it looks like Scottish Labour are finished. Independence will be next.
