Who is Donald Trump?

I keep seeing comparisons between Donald Trump and Hitler. That when Hitler was coming to power people didn't take him seriously, and then the result we all know happened.

Somehow I'm not as afraid of Donald Trump getting into power. Not because I don't think the results would be disastrous, especially for the US, but because I'm not completely sure the guy has any legitimate aspirations or beliefs.

It's hard to read what his actual intentions are because as far as I can tell he doesn't actually have any. He's just an obnoxious, arrogant, extroverted guy who is so far removed from reality that he's convinced himself that what he's doing right now is normal. The things he's saying are all ploys to win whoever is listening to him over to feed his ego.

Does that sound about right? I really can't take him seriously as anything other than a severely deluded idiot with no actual interest in global politics.

I think the real consequence of his potential election is the further degradation of US government, at a time when your country really needs the opposite to be true.

He's the guy that's going to make America again. He's going to build a wall (a beautiful wall), he's going to make trade deals (great trade deals), and he's going to bring America jobs (which is plural for two or more). Don't you watch the news?

He's a guy that just wants to win to satisfy his ego.

Actually doing the job won't interest him very much.

He was interested in running Trump University,

oh, he wasn't was he?

I think of Trump more as Mussolini than Hitler.

I think of Trump more as Chuck Woolery.

Since 2004, Trump's job (at least his most prominent one) was that of game show host. People competing for a prize, with a catchphrase instead of a buzzer when a contestant gets eliminated. When the ratings for the original iteration of "The Apprentice" were on the skids (a friend of mine was on the last season) he reinvented the show to feature D-List "celebrities" supposedly fighting over charity money.

But as my friend said, it was never about the money. The prize for being on the show - contestants, celebrity contestants, and even for Trump - was exposure. Something to put on your resume or your demo reel or your IMDB page that would launch you to the next level.

For Trump, he was already somewhat famous for being a blowhard billionaire, but his branding wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire. He was schmaltzy. Trump Steaks and Trump the Board Game were so 80s marketing it was painful. He was like a walking, talking episode of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," and that shit didn't sell in the internet age.

The Apprentice reinvented his image. And it was all image...no substance. Trump's businesses were alternately succeeding, failing, or treading water during the run of The Apprentice, but the show presented him as some sort of infallible business guru. People lining up season after season to sit at the feet of The Donald and maybe glean some of his business acumen. All bullshit designed to market Trump to an audience of millions.

I'm inclined to believe that this whole Presidential run was initially conceived as an idea to market Trump. The Celebrity Apprentice - like its predecessor - was getting long in the tooth and Trump needed a new angle to work towards the next level of success. He'd run a bombastic, outrageous campaign, maybe win a couple primaries, then drop out when it turned serious and sell himself as "former Presidential Candidate Donald Trump" for the next few years. Maybe deliver some speeches or sign on to Fox News as a contributor.

Then he actually started to win. I wonder if he really thought he would get this far.

He's very good at peddling bullshit. That's about it. I think he just wants to see how far he can take the bullshit.

But then we become stuck with whoever manages to get him to hand over the keys.

kind of like Trump...

Donald Trump is essentially white trash which through deficiencies of capitalism became rich.
Take away his ill gained money and he is an uneducated, stupid and bombastic loser.

He more reminds me of one of the blowhard strongmen that popped up in parts of Asia after the USSR collapsed. A leader of one of the various Stans. He's an egotistical idiot way in over his head.

I think such similarities are superficial. Multiple ***stan presidents are egotistical but not idiots. The fact that so many ***stans switched to basically the same corrupted system they had before USSR suggests that it is in their culture, unfortunately. Donald Trump is a product of American system. In my head he is associated with such words as "white trash", "used cars salesman", "snake oil salesman", etc.

And in the trailer next door is China. White trash gonna run his mouth.
Mexicans and Muslims are just funny looking little kids to pick on.
President Donald is Cock of the Walk.
That's who Donald Trump is.
