that people in the US are living in the matrx
I don't understand what the big deal is. Clearly the US is a terrible place to be anything other than a WASP. But we do have an excellent interstate system here. Why don't we simply meet the caravan at the Mexican border and escort the refugees through to Canada? Hell, we have the financial resources to bus them and make their trip through the US much more pleasant than their trek through Mexico. And much cooler weather for them once they reach Canada.

Any Canadians on this board? How do you feel about meeting these refugees at your border?

Ya, that’s fine. Send them up.

You good with putting them on buses yourselves or do you want us to send some cash down to rent a few?

These seem like a determined group of go-getters who’d be a boon to the country. We appreciate the offer.

Trump will never allow such a precious commodity to be exported. He's a Nationalist, remember?
The caravan people and their ilk have been the greatest fearmongering tool he has ever had, and it will be a cold day in Hell when he allows this grave threat that he calls a National Emergency to go away.

I've suggested this on this board before. Happy to take them.

You need to petition your government... they disagree with you.

Canada warns immigrants in U.S. about heading north of the border

As President Trump travels north to Canada to attend the G7 summit, Canadian officials have been heading south to try to stem a wave of undocumented immigrants headed their way.

You say that, but what does that make me? I'd totally move to Canada if they would let me in. But I don't have tens of thousands in liquid cash, affordable housing, a job lined up, etc.. But I do fear for my husband (and my own) safety in this increasingly Nazi country

It is a problem. The immigration requirements to get into Canada are a good bit more restrictive than those of the U.S.

But we’re talking about refugees, not immigrants. They’re different systems.

This group has shown character and resilience. They’d be a boon to the country. We don’t need a bunch more Americans, because we’ve already got a large enough group of people who just sit around bitching on Twitter and expecting someone else to take action for them.

Is this the same 7,000 caravan that has shrunk to half the size as thousands are applying for refugee status in Mexico?

The endless irony. In desperately trying to appease a dying voting block (white conservatives), the GOP is once again shooting itself in the foot. If they were to take this opportunity to quickly vet these people while en route, they could easily expedite the normal legalization process and voila, not a single one would be an "illegal" (regardless of the fact that they are seeking asylum, which is a completely different matter than naturalization).

True colors always shine through.

Just out of curiosity, why did you vote for Obama?

At the time, Obama promised change and I was very disappointed in Bush for his fake Iraq war and policies which brought on the great recession in 2008. At this time, the auto industry was floundering and Obama was showing the signs he would save these industries.

As it turned out I was extremely lucky Obama did get elected. Because Obama bailed Chrysler and that saved my pension and healthcare (Im retired from them now). Mc Cain would have let Chrysler die.

Even if Canadians were okay with this (they too have a crazy xenophobic wing), why should we use our tax dollars to subsidize the Canadian economy? It is a hard but consistent law of history that when people start leaving more than they are coming, empires are about to begin their fall. And progressives are as a general rule well-educated, we aren't apt to want to repeat ancient mistakes in the present.

AFAIK, there are no cities similar to Skid Row Los Angeles in Canada. Not yet. Canada is a rich country and your offer is gracious.

But would you still make the same offer if these were lawyers who would practice law in Canada thus competing directly with YOUR lifesyle and living? If you were honest about this, I highly doubt it. But since these people are going to cut peoples lawns, they are jobs that do not matter to you since you are well insulated.

The arrival of all this excess capacity labor has nothing to do with whether these people are ambitious or intelligent. Nor has it anything to do with their race, religion, or sex. Nor has it anything to do with compassion.

But it does have everything to do with a government who should be taking care of their own first.

Having a lot of unskilled people does not make a country great.

If you do not believe me, just try to immigrate into Australia.

You're making a lot of damn assumptions about the caravan, and your statement is wrong anyway; a country needs a mix of skilled and unskilled laborers.

If nothing else, there are a lot of children in this caravan for whom, given Canada's very good educational system, would probably only be "unskilled" for the time being.

The company I work for could stand to gain some employees. We have a few South Americans on board already. The small town I'm in could sure use more culture as well. That being said, you can NEVER have enough culture in a community IMO.

I use to live in Toronto and I miss the multi-cultural communities the most. The food, the music, the different perspectives - Dang I'm homesick now. I love the west coast of Canada but it's pretty monochromatic, although I've learned and befriended many first-nations people and that has been a great experience. The world is a different place through another eyes and there is so much to learn...
