Woman On Trial For Laughing At Jeff Sessions

Meh, she did way worse before.

Also, is that her real name? Desiree is French or English, but Fairooz sounds Muslim ...

It's sounds Persian, so she could be Muslim, Christian, Baha'i, Jewish, Zoroastrian... Or any religion or none at all.

I see the false equivalency of them.
Elaborate
One deals with the arrest, trial, and imprisonment of a group of people that performed out in public. The other deals with a disruption in a Government building during a particular proceeding. Neither case is a glowing example of free speech, but the two are not equivalent.

I did not claim there were equivalent. I said they were similar and implied that arresting this woman for laughing is more ridiculous than arresting Pussy Riots for their premeditated performance at the church. Of course there is little chance for her going to prison for that I think.

Oh my... premeditated performance.

Also, you really did seem to see an equivalency because you asked me to elaborate when I said there was a false equivalence.

Bottom line, current administration are trying to be worse than Putin in some respect.

No, and I'm taking back the consolation prizes now. Two of the band members served 21 months for free speech.

More like, the Senate is supposed to be a safe space for politicians. Apparently, Senate is very strict about noise levels coming from the gallery.
And this particular activist has a history of disruptive antics in Congress.
If she resists jail, she could wind up dead.
Melodramatic much?
If convicted she probably only faces a modest fine.

Her laughter was not the only laughter in that senate hearing. Her mistake seems to have been in not confining her laughter to jokes Sessions intended to make.

No, highly relevant.
Not to anyone who understands reason and the English language. Her past is not relevant to the issue in the OP. Bringing it up is a pathetic smear the victim tactic.
No, smear the source for bias and poor journalistic quality.
The relevant way to rebut the report is to provide information about the case from other sources that contradicts the report. But thank you for admitting you are engaging in a smear tactic.

So it is completely fine for Joe Wilson to yell "you lie" during a joint session of Congress,
Do you understand the difference between member of Congress doing something and a spectator from the gallery doing it?

Yes. A member of Congress should know this "very strict rule" of yours better than a spectator from the gallery, and should be held to an even higher standard of decorum.

Suspended sentence? $50 fine?

How much does it cost to prosecute this case?

Her is a video of the laughing incident.

The laughing part is at 1:25.

Wow. After watching that video, I wonder how our democracy survived such an assault.
