Ordinarily, I would see this as an attack on free speech, but Jones' peculiar brand of insanity has resulted in his fans tormenting the families of Sandy Hook victims, and one of his demented minions shot up a pizza joint because he believed there was a child sex/cannibalism ring in the non-existent basement.

I think Alex Jones has long passed the "yelling fire in a theater" standard and is causing enough harm to enough people to warrant taking his platform away.

Besides, conservatives are perfectly free to start their own video streaming service, so it's not as if he's losing his free speech, he's just losing a source of revenue, and rightly so.

This took long enough. All of a sudden these massive corporations are just realizing the effect he has had on real people, like the families of those slaughtered in Sandy Hook?

And fuck Alex Jones. I can only hope his death is gruesomely painful (and uninstigated).

Was there a meeting or backchannel communication for all of these companies to do this on the same day? (Think GameJournoPros and "Gamers are dead")

Or just Youtube took the lead and these other companies thought this fucker was a crazy liability and now they could cut him loose like they wanted to for a long while.

So, Alex Jones still has Infowars.com and if the company that provides the server space/bandwidth for his website dumps him as a customer is that legal? How far up the internet backbone does a person have to be to be safe to spew lunacy? Who provide Infowars service provider with internet and so on?

I have seen the mostly poor analogy of getting dumped off of youtube/twitter/spotify and so on to a privately owned phone company canceling your phone line or the USPS/UPS/FedEx not delivering or sending your mail.

Further on, let's say that Alex Jones was either civilly or criminally convicted of slander/libel or incitement. At that point in the past before the internet could a person be legally barred from having a telephone line at the most extreme case, not to mention a large platform on private companies?

I am just trying to anticipate the most extreme argument pro Alex Jones (or him as a canary in a coalmine) people will make.

Pretty much doctors will stop treating him, grocery stores won't sell him groceries, and he won't be able to use the bathroom or any other utilities. He'll shortly die due to living in a squalled home full of his own feces.

Jones is being sued by a number of Sandy Hook victims' parents. Plus suing other Youtuber's who are spreading Jones' lies. It may well be that Youtube and other social media outlets are being spooked at the prospect of being sued themselves for spreading libels and attacks. I hope they win and slap the fondness for libel and slander out of Jones and manage to raise the stakes for such irresponsible lie mongering.

As usual. I agree with Juliann Assange:

The empire strikes back: Apple, Spotify, Facebook and Google/Youtube all purge Infowars/Alex Jones. Yes, Infowars has frequent nonsense, but also a state power critique. Which publisher in the world with millions of subscribers is next to be wiped out for cultural transgression?

You are probably right.

But I view that as a problem with our crappy legal system having way too many lawyers who can not find a real job. A platform should NEVER be held responsible for someone else's content.

Ah, so it's a conspiracy, not YouTube finally getting off their asses and enforcing the rules Jones agreed to when he set up his account and channel. Tell me, is QAnon involved, or is that a separate conspiracy theory?

Alex Jones banned across much of the Internet.

So this is a new and interesting development in the technosphere.

NY Times article

Top technology companies erased most of the posts and videos on their services from the internet’s most notorious conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, thrusting themselves into a fraught debate over their role in regulating what can be said online.
Apple, Google, Facebook and Spotify severely restricted the reach of Mr. Jones and Infowars, his right-wing site that has been a leading peddler of false information online, one of the tech companies’ most direct actions against misinformation. Mr. Jones and Infowars have used social media for years to spread dark and bizarre theories, such as that Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax and that Democrats run a global child-sex ring. Apple made its move on Sunday and the others followed on Monday.

So, some have removed his content entirely, others just some of the more hateful rhetoric. In an age where people and government are clamoring for misinformation to be removed or labeled, the tech giants are in a difficult position. Some are claiming this is an infringement on free speech, others say he is not owed any kind of platform. Of course, Jones can host all the content he likes on his own servers, and I wonder about slippery slope arguments. After all, Stormfront and other hate sites definitely still dot the Internet landscape.

I can't stand Alex Jones. He's most definitely a harmful blowhard that encourages the worst in people. His real schtick, of course, is money, and the show is basically just a vehicle used to sell his pseudoscientific bullshit merchandise. I tend to be pretty absolute on free speech issues, but as I see it so far, he's not being censored, he's being judged as being in violation of terms of service of several tech giants. This isn't the same as the government censorship of Alex Jones views or business.

What do you think?

Ah, of course it was a conspiracy!

Furthermore, any journalist who isn't a conspiracy theorist isn't worth a shit! Its their job to find out and report the truth wherever that leads. Its their job to follow where the facts lead even if it is improbable. When Wikileaks released actual proof the US government was spying on everyone, what was released was improbable but it was the truth, and it was also what I would call good journalism.

Whats the point of reporting what is going on in the world if all we need to do is listen to what Underseer believes?!! If Underseer tells us it is true we must believe! Otherwise it is a conspiracy theory!!

I think he damn well knows the harm he has done. He doesn’t quell harassment of mass shooting victim families, he incites it. To hell with him.

How can I find out what current portal (hosting service?) Infowars.com uses to get to the internet?

Perhaps it is not public information, but I doubt that. I would think a tech savvy person could find that info.

It's hidden behind Cloudflare.

I did a little dance in my underpants. Obviously when no one was watching because I have an embarrassing body tone.

Why? Because this is an example of common sense winning against reality. Fuckit, if I had pom poms, I would have attempted a high kick. Lower back issues notwithstanding.
