2023 House vote for speaker

McCarthy unofficially got 213, and at least has finally beaten Jeffries.

Their appears to have been 331 voters. Jeffries got 211. Democrat Trone was not there, and Republicans Buck and Hunt also did not vote.

216 would have won it. If the same voting numbers hold, that would mean McCarthy could afford six defectors, he had seven this time. There were no present votes, Spartz went for McCarthy.

At 213, he needs 3 of the 7 sociopaths voting today.

ETA, 4 of 7, based on Trone being back.

Yes, the voting form from last round is holding for the 13th round.

Correction, Harris has flipped to McCarthy.

Playing The Song That Doesn't End by Shari Lewis over the intercoms might work.

McCarthy peels away Andy Harris. And the group of 20+1 is down to 6. As things stood yesterday, McCarthy is in MUCH better shape... but back to the cricket metaphor... he has one ball left and he is down 11.

With Rosedale going for Jordan again, McCarthy will end up with 6 defectors this time, only winning Harris from the prior seven.

Taylor Greene takes on Boebert - A Cat Fight!

Cat Fight

I am going to Boebert's district next week - can't wait to ask the constituents what they think of bobblehead now. Repubs here on the other side of the state are saying she is only looking for media coverage. Loves the red light of the camera.

McCarthy needs 3 more votes of the 6 protesting GOP'ers. If Buck and Hunt were here, that number would drop to just 2. Seeing that none of these people have no shame, it is impossible to know where this goes. It isn't like principles are involved here.

CNN is reporting Eli Crane and Matt Rosendale are the targets for McCarthy. Of course, that won't get him across the line until the GOP caucus is in full attendence. Eli Crane won a competitive seat, a Navy Seal in Arizona, which kind of gives a feel of 'true-believer' in this alt-right crap. This does remind me of how newcomer Ocasio-Cortez didn't not vote for Pelosi, though a coupe or few of the proggier freshman did.

Rosendale is yet again, another newcomer, though not as young. This would be his second term. Incredible how these do-nothings and newcomers have halted McCarthy's ascension to the Speaker position. It'd seem easy and very hard to win over Rosendale and Crane, being newbs or newb-ish.

If McCarthy does cross the finish line, I wonder what is in store for the holdouts? Will there be any consequences?

I wish he’d been voted in on the first attempt.

He’s eventually going to be the Speaker—the difference is, after all this, he’s going to be a lower-case, small-s speaker and the Wingnut psycho ward branch of the GOP will really be the ones running the place.

McCarthy wants the title way too much; if he had even a rudimentary fragment of backbone he’d tell the “NeverKevins” of his own party, “Fuck you and all your concessions; vote for Hakeem Jeffries if you have a hardon with me over some issue.”

Always need to be a bit suspect about photos on Twitter but this appears to have been posted by Reuters Picture editor.

The photo is real, but a white supremacist intent is not very clear.

Here in Alaska, when intransigent rightwing radicals were actively working to shut down the government rather than compromise on their pet issues, nine Democrats and eight Republicans reached across party lines and formed a bipartisan majority in the state Senate. It's been working out very well for us. They don't agree on everything but they handle their disagreements like responsible adults and work toward solutions.

You been living under a rock? That is not the right wing republican way, and hasn't been since Ronny Raygun told us all that government is the problem - and some idiots actually believed him.
