Directv is dropping Newsmax. And now 40 GOP House members sent an angry letter to AT&T and indicated their disapproval of AT&T colluding with the Democrats to censor conservative news channels.

Of course, part of the issue is Newsmax went from paying to be carried to wanting to be paid to be carried. AT&T/Directv were like "umm... no we'll find some other fascist right-wing network that'll pay us for carriage". And they did. That network is TheFirst.

Of course, the fascists in the US House were angry, because without Newsmax on television, that leaves only Fox News... and whomever Newsmax was replaced by. Newsmax started as a website that provided right-wingers with lots of ads to buy Iraqi currency, physical gold with high transaction fees, and self-defense programs. In 2014, they wanted to get a piece of the Cable Network pie. Their programming on television was just as high quality as their website... but blonder with more moving cleavage. And when Trump came around, they were certain to provide news coverage that was more a hat tip to George Orwell than actual news coverage.

The trouble was, they wanted to make money, but were actually having to pay people to broadcast their channel. So, they stepped forward and said "we want haz cheezburger"... and AT&T/Directv said "no can haz cheezburger."

So the House GOP'ers are angry. Because they need to be angry, it is all they have left as a platform.

Ah...capitalism. A world where a Daily Wire film starring a former Disney employee only earns $800, while a "woke" film from her former employer is a relative failure if it "only" makes $800 million.

Go fash, no cash.

One big problem as of late is Cable TV is losing viewers. One interesting aspect of this is potential customers who refuse to get cable because they refusee to put a red penny into the pockets of expensive right winged channels like Faux, OAN, or Newsmax.

I can't help but think a bunch of it is age brackets.
Doug, his mom, and I used to live together. We had a cable package that included land line phone, Wi-Fi, and television. Doug and I used the WiFi, but not the rest very much. It was almost entirely her.

The first billing cycle after she died we cancelled Comcast, and saved about $300 a month. I suspect we're not the only ones who see cable TV as an old people thing.

Cable Internet, a couple streaming services, and a leaf antenna. And I get a discount on the cable.

I "cut the cord" a decade ago and have been without a land line for 15. Switched to satellite for a couple years, but ditched that as well. It took awhile, but my sister and I finally convinced our mom (she's 84) to get rid of cable. Now she has You Tube TV and a couple other streaming services and absolutely loves it.

And yeah, the Fox News demo is mostly 55+. A co-worker who fancies himself as "old" (he's in his early 40s) subscribes to The Daily Wire and such, but his politics stick out like a sore thumb at the office. Sometimes it's all I can do to hold back when he complains about "woke" stuff, "you know we work for a San Francisco based tech company that's 'woke' as fuck, right?"

As long as I'm not required to say anything nice about AT&T, this is fine. I cut the cable when they bought DirecTV, a service I'd had for 15-20 years. They said I didn't pay my bill. I proved that I paid, they acknowledged I paid it, and then they said I needed to pay it.

I took the hit to my credit and have been streaming ever since.

Oh, and fuck Newsmax.

Oh x 2, and fuck Gina Carano too. What an idiot.

Republicans have gone all commie, they want to nationalize all broadcasters and social media platforms, that they don't like.
It would be fun if some talk show invited one of the GOP people onto a show to discuss the topic "Free Markets and Free Speech", now wouldn't it?

It's starting to look as though conservative news is one big shell game. The same people keep cropping up in different groups.

On a side note, does DirectTV honestly think The First has more money than Newsmax?

The deal was, Newsmax was demanding money to carry their channel, The First does not.

Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) just joined the ranks of conservatives making ridiculous comparisons to the Holocaust. (Watch the video below.)
In a floor speech on Tuesday, the freshman House member criticized DirecTV for dropping the far-right network Newsmax.

For the record, the TV provider said it ditched Newsmax because the station demanded a rate increase. DirecTV then replaced it with another right-wing network, “The First,” which has Bill O’Reilly as one of its stars.
But Burlison claimed to see something more sinister afoot. He accused DirecTV of trying to “silence conservative speech,” arguing that it dumped the One America News network and is now “going after Newsmax.” He suggested the situation is reminiscent of the early stages of Nazi Germany’s brutal mass murder of Jews, Polish people, Romani people, gay people, people with disabilities and countless others.
:fuckoff:

I’m sure he has a bunch of constituents who don’t believe the Holocaust happened. I’d love to hear their comments on his comparison.

I'd rather he just got broadsided by a bus... but that list is really starting to get out of hand.

Conservatives do have a general point.

Mainstream media does not give much air time to conservative issues. Controlling spending. Fiscal responsibility.

Political correctness, Illegal immigrants became undocumented immigrants . When Sharpton wnet to work on MSNBC he said he wold never criticize Obama, bias.

The liberal agenda dominates the media for sure.

Most consecutive issues are framed as racists.

I used to listen tp both conservative and progressive radio. Buy gold commercials appeared on both. Fr every Rush Limbaugh there was a progressive counterpart.

One progressive radio figure got suspended because of his repeated calling conservatives Nazis.

I never watched or listened to Newsmax, but I think there is plenty of craziness on both sides.

There is no balance anywhere in the media.

Those may be conservative issues, but they haven't been part of the Republican party's platform for decades.

Depends on what you mean by 'liberal'. The big news sources have a pro-establishment bias, that rarely question either republicans, or center-to-right leaning democrats. Actual progressives are rarely represented, and liberal policies tend to not be covered positively.

By who? What issue that is not either based in racism, or framed to appeal to racists by republicans is being unfairly framed as so by the media?

Fr every Rush Limbaugh there was a progressive counterpart.
Bull. I've seen estimates putting right-wing talk shows at over 90% of talk radio shows.

One progressive radio figure got suspended because of his repeated calling conservatives Nazis.
If true, that would show the right-leaning tendency of the media. Rush as far as I know invented the word 'feminazi'. Never heard of him being suspended over that. Calling democrats nazis has been rather common among right-wing shows.

Can you give any examples of craziness on actual progressive shows? Pick just about any right-wing station and you can hear several ridiculous conspiracy theories pretty much any day.
