Nufsed: "Anyone else notice Hugh’s list of potential Republican candidates largely hail from former slave states?"
Shows how much the Republican Party has become the party of Jefferson Davis

B Rich:
Mr. Hewitt-
All of the folks on your list, to greater or lesser degree, have been Trumpists, as in Trump enablers and cheerleaders. As I have mentioned before, history is going to be very unkind to those who enabled Trumpism.
Jimbo III: "We have Trump family members and Trump apologists on the list. What a revolting group crooks, wanabe crooks, and incompetent nimrods."

But then again, Reagan, Bush II, and Trump didn't seem very smart.

CulBMalo: "Not Kushner? Not Mnuchin? Not Marjorie Taylor Greene?"
RLWOrlando: "How about Rudy? How did he not make this silly list?"

PartTimeAbaconians:
The Republicans have been caught in the same trap since 1988: Nobody can get nominated without appealing to the far-right racist nuts and evangelicals, and then have to TRY to move to the middle.
Bush pulled it off on Reagan's coattails in 1988, cynically using a racist meme against Michael Dukakis.
But he failed in 1992, as Bob Dole failed in 1996.
Dubya played the race card in 2000, and should have lost but for his brother purging Dem voters in Florida and a totally corrupted 5 SCOTUS Justices, 2 of which if they had ANY integrity would have recused.
In 2008, McCain TRIED to be that far-right guy but couldn't pull it off...and he lost.
In 2012, Romney tried it, and failed.
In 2016, Trump GLEEFULLY embraced the racism and sexism and WOULD have lost had Hillary run a competent campaign despite Trump's treasonous embrace of Russian meddling.
Now, hopefully, it's looking like Trump will fail.

But...reasonable (and I used the word VERY cautiously) like Kasich, Huntsman, Charlie Baker, or Larry Hogan, who COULD win in 2024, will NEVER get nominated as long as the Trump base keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
