Basic Beliefs
secular-skeptic
Every Christmas CNN runs shows on the history of Christianity. They are usually reasonably balanced and objective. Clearly those of us outspoken non believers can be thankful for the constitution that protects our criticism of religion.

In historical time it was not that long ago our religious criticism here could get us jailed, tortured, or executed.

The line of Catholic popes were essentially brutal dictators by our standards today.

Our iconic Pilgrims were fleeing not Muslims or atheists, they were fleeing other Christians.

I was always ambivalent on religion. Not anymore. We need to protect and fight for our right to be free of religious conformity, especially the attempts by legislators to translate scripture into law.

Yeah, the history of Christianity is filled with a lot of cruelty. We are certainly lucky that secularism has driven back a lot of it.

I do wonder if there will be a similar point in the future where reasonable, freethinking people can publicly critique and critisize Islam without fear of being called a racist (), Islamaphobe, xenophobe, hater,.... Someday perhaps, but the PC is so thick these days you can cut it with a knife.
