I understand. The Patriots have a business model, and it has been very successful both in the piggy bank and on the field. The Patriots have let some really good talent leave to pick up huge paychecks elsewhere. And in general, while the talent loss hurts, the compensatory picks almost always lead to the selection of great talent.

But we are talking about Malcolm Butler here. Butler is one of the better CB's in the league. Fine, whatever. This isn't about that (though it justifies paying him good money). He won Super Bowl 49. His play will never be forgotten by anyone who saw that game. The Patriots defense managed not to choke out another loss because of his single defensive play, in the end zone with time dying off on the clock.

That play doesn't happen, Seahawks win the Super Bowl. While Tom Brady has a boatload of Super Bowl MVPs, no single play in Super Bowl history will ever reach a higher climax than the Butler interception. And I am upset that New England isn't rewarding him for it. Maybe he wants too much. But he certainly deserves a lot.
