So the title refers to 'alternative to the 10 Christian commandments'.

Settling on 10 is arbitrary, obviously.

The word 'commandments' can be taken to mean 'rules for living', or even 'suggested rules for living'.

It is unlikely that any suggested rules will be flawless or universally applicable, that is to say without exceptions.

So what are your suggestions?

I'll start with an obvious one:

Treat others as you would like to be treated. (Obviously, this may not always be sociable, if adopted by masochists or those with a death wish).

Or what about:

Do no harm (or as little as is reasonably possible). As in the Hippocratic Oath. This could include not harming other living things.

or

Do not tend to think of yourself as better than others.

or

One good turn deserves another.

We are all in the same boat, we live, we die.
Nobody is more important.
Treat others as you would your own family.
Leave nobody behind.
Create a society where nobody is extremely rich and nobody is poor.
Don't exploit your fellow human beings or the natural world to the detriment of either.

Distrust humans, even this

Some will tell you dictators are necessary, do not believe them

Do not think the way things are is because that is the way things should be

Thanks DBT. Some good ones there, imo. I'm in too much of a rush to comment further just now.

I like the 3rd one. :)

The other two are arguably valid too. I'm just not sure if I'd put them in my personal top 10.

If I get enough responses, I may try to collate a suggested top 10, understanding that not everyone would agree with me.

Maxims. That's the word I was looking for instead of commandments.

Thou shalt not piss in thy neighbors yard.

They boil down to

Do not lie.
Do not make false accusations.
Do not commit adultery
Do not steal
Do not murder.
Do not covet your neighbor's wife, animals, and his big screen TV.

A nice addition would be tolerance.

There was a more comprehensive Code Of Hammurabi.

Outside of medicine do no harm is impossible. A choice may minimize harm but not avoid it. A choice between the better of teo evils. Sane with one good turn. Liability laws cover a lot.

As reasonable? Here we go again, endless interpretation of scripture.
