Obama orders US special forces to 'assist' fight against Isis in Syria

Hmmm...sounds like a great idea. Illegally send some poor chumps into Syria to be human shields.
Apparently they won't be telling the Russians where the US personnel will be. The USA is insane. It seems that Obama is too weak to stand up to the neocons (who are clearly crazy). I say this because in the recent 60 minutes interview Obama, when it is pointed out what a failure the Syria policy is, back pedals and says he thought it was a bad idea too.

So you want total war in Syria?

Hardly. Like most good Americans I want Russia to accidentally kill some poor chump from America so we can have a nuclear confrontation and show everyone who is boss. Don't you?

No, but this just shows the complexity of this issue. What do you advocate we do? I have no clear answer.

STAY THE FUCK OUT OF IT

It's really not that complex. It is not our war, it is not our country, it is not any of our business, even if we HAD the means to actually solve the problem, which we don't. This is one of those rare cases where it is glaringly obvious that our meddling is not going to make things better but we're going and doing it anyway in the hope that maybe we'll get lucky.

It's not complex at all: don't meddle in things you don't understand.

And how about Russia quit bombing the good guys?

There ARE no good guys in Syria. It's not that kind of war.

It's a war of dicks vs. assholes. Choosing a side at all implies that one side or the other actually has a valid grievance that justifies their actions, and that just isn't the case here. The PEOPLE of Syria have lots of grievances, some of which are valid, but none of which are actually represented in the civil war.

Pretty much this^.

Let Russia get stuck in that mess. I think we have an obligation to see to it that Iraq doesn't fall, but beyond that, it's something we should stay out of.

It has been pointed out that there are several million soldiers from the various ME countries and that ISIS numbers in the tens of thousands. If the Arab nations don't give a fuck when they could easily squash ISIS, then what makes it our fight?

Oh George W. Bush; Oh Dick Cheney; Oh Donald Rumsfeld; Oh Karl Rove; what would the world have been like without ye.

Does anybody believe that Obama just decided on his own to send these troops?

The president is hostage to the Military Industrial Complex.

Obama sent these soldiers because he got intense pressure from the Pentagon to do it.

The US is far closer to fascism than it is to any other system. Real power rests with the military and corporations.

We could at least make it expensive for Russia to be there.

Why?

For those that don't know Army green berets are special forces other elite figthers are special operations. Green berets primary mission is training insurgent fighters to over throw governments the US deems hostile. They also provide training to friendly governments. As well as do psyop missions to help foster revolutions. They aren't required to maintain military grooming standards to better blend in. Language and cultural awareness are key aspects of their training.

These 50 green berets aren't likely to be killed nor involved in direct military actions. Delta, Rangers, Seals and marine Raiders are the guys that do the raids or manhunts.

The truth is the president can send these forces anywhere without anybody knowing about it.

The only reason we know about it is because the executive wants us to know about it.

This is a political move and probably what these Green Berets will mainly do is try to establish assets for information gathering. It's only 50 men after all.

There could a plus side: maybe they'll learn something.

Soldiers are for fighting; career types like SF, you want them to take advantage. It's cold military like math, but a few more or less dead, wounded or disabled is insignificant.

Sounds like one-upmanship with Russia. I tend to agree with those who are saying that 50 special forces units is nothing. The shit will really hit the fan only if any of them gets captured and featured on an ISIS beheading video.
