Certainly the brain here was not rational. Lots of this stuff in religion.

I used to think that we must have lost much in translation, either that or the listeners were aware of some understanding we have since lost. It certainly needs something to unmake the psycho babble that it is. This is where I think adherents bring in their magic being's mysteriousness and infinite incomprehensibility. That makes it all good somehow.

Religion lets one do this. Adding religious intent and understanding to a pathology makes it not a pathology anymore but a gift from a magic being.
