Has anyone written up an analysis of the various searches for particular things through archaeology? Like evidence of the Shang dynasty, or King Solomon, or Troy or whatever.

Impressive archaeological finds often happen by accident. The Dead Sea Scrolls are one example of this. The The Nag Hammadi Scriptures are another.
