Purity test: Democrats clash over Biden diversity goals - POLITICO
Black Democrats are urging Joe Biden to resist growing pressure from the left to impose an anti-Wall Street purity test on his hiring decisions if elected, warning that it threatens the party’s desire to boost diversity in powerful executive branch posts.

Progressives have been calling on Biden to take a hard line in filling out his Cabinet, with groups such as Justice Democrats and Sunrise Movement demanding that he pledge to appoint “zero” current or former Wall Street executives or corporate lobbyists to his administration.

This got responses like

Mehdi Hasan on Twitter: "This implies ‘Black Democrats’ and ‘the left’ are two distinct, rival blocs. Some of the most prominent, high-profile members of the Democratic left today are Black: @IlhanMN, @AyannaPressley, @JamaalBowmanNY, @CoriBush, @RepBarbaraLee" / Twitter
Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Barbara Lee

We need less Wall Street in the next administration and more working class representation." / Twitter

Cori Bush on Twitter: "Not THIS Black Democrat.
We don't just want Black leaders. We want Black leaders who will actually bring the change our communities need, not just do the bidding of Wall Street." / Twitter

Cori Bush on Twitter: "There could be dozens of qualified BIPOC candidates in St. Louis alone who would bring that change. So, where should folx send their resumes? Asking for a friend." / Twitter

It struck me as rather desperate -- trying to defend being in the pay of Wall Street by saying that the alternative is having mostly honkies in top positions.

I recall someone comparing the Congressional Black Caucus to the Tammany Hall political machine of NYC in the late 19th cy., especially under the leadership of William "Boss" Tweed. Tammany Hall catered to Irish immigrants, and it was also grossly corrupt.

Thomas Nast made some classic editorial cartoons about Boss Tweed's corruption -- and he made some anti-Irish and anti-Catholic ones.

Who me?

This Black Democrat is urging Biden to do the opposite.

We need less Wall Street in the next administration and more working class representation.

Wall Street’s greed and recklessness is responsible for destroying Black wealth.

Claiming that “Black Democrats” are demanding pro-Wall Street appointments based on a few voices is frankly racist.

If you’re looking for more diverse representation in a potential Biden administration, Wall Street is probably the last place I’d look.

Tell the CBC: Corporations Don't Speak for Black People | ColorOfChange.org
The Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee is a Washington, DC-based group that claims to speak for Black people but is really a mouthpiece for corporate power. For decades, the Congressional Black Caucus has been known as the 'Conscience of the Congress.' Representing the interests of Black communities across the country, the CBC has often pushed the country in the direction of equality and inclusion. Sadly, that reputation for moral leadership has been tainted by the work of the CBC Political Action Committee (CBC PAC), its board dominated by corporate lobbyists and funding from some of the worst industries for Black people including private prisons.
Dems Cash in After Defending Private Equity Firms at House Hearing - "Reps. Gottheimer and Meeks formed a joint fundraising committee just days after defending private equity at a committee hearing. A new FEC filing shows it raised money almost exclusively from two companies that consumer advocates called out during the hearing."
On Nov. 19, 2019, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the dangers of private equity in which Democrats including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Chairwoman Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) criticized the industry’s practices for, as Waters put it, “preying on hardworking Americans to maximize their profits.”

Clyburn has taken more than $1 million in pharma money in a decade, far surpassing peers | Health | postandcourier.com
While South Carolina’s longest-serving congressman threw his support to research and the growth of the multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry in his district, drug- and device-making companies rewarded him by giving liberally to his campaign war chest for years.

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-Columbia, has collected more in the last decade from powerful political action committees attached to the pharmaceutical industry than anyone else in the House or Senate, according to Kaiser Health News and a Post and Courier analysis.
Reps. Gregory Meeks and Jim Clyburn are both black.
