Gerhald Acosta had been forced to leave his job at the Montes del Plata paper mill early and was walking home from work when a good Samaritan offered to give him a lift.
The shocked hitchhiker told a local newspaper that it was only as he got into the car - the president's iconic 1987 blue Volkswagen Beetle - that he recognised that the elderly couple was actually President Jose Mujica and his wife Sen. Lucia Topolansky.

What a guy!

Commenting on his position, Mujica once told Al Jazeera: 'A president is a high-level official who is elected to carry out a function. He is not a king, not a god. He is not the witch doctor of a tribe who knows everything.
'He is a civil servant. I think the ideal way of living is to live like the vast majority of people whom we attempt to serve and represent.'

Wish our President and federal apparatchiks held the same view.

You wouldn't want Obama's care stopping anywhere near you. I saw him once on the 5 freeway in LA. He was surrounded by an armada of cops and secret service and retinue. If it stopped anywhere near you, you should prepare for a full body scan. Uraguay is very different indeed.

It helps, to jettison "conservatives"!!
After Uruguay Legalized Marijuana
December 9, 2014

"One year ago, Uruguay became the first country in the world to completely legalize marijuana in a move that has since been dubbed the "great experiment." But for the last few months, it looked like Uruguay's experiment was coming to an end as public sentiment continued to go against legal marijuana and a rising presidential candidate vowed to repeal much of the law if elected.

At the end of last month, however, voters in Uruguay granted the leftist Broad Front coalition another presidential term by electing 74-year-old oncologist Tabare Vazquez over center-right National Party candidate Luis Lacalle Pou, 53% to 40%. In doing so, Uruguay solidified its left-leaning status and kept alive the country's legal marijuana and the government's growing dispensary system.

So while the "great experiment" almost came to an end before it ever really got its feet off the ground, it has lived to fight another day. But how, then, has this experiment in legalization worked out for the country over the past year?

Where we are now: On December 10, 2013, Uruguay became the first country to legalize marijuana, but they're doing things a little differently.

Private citizens are allowed to cultivate up to six plants in their houses and can form private grow clubs that produce significantly more. However, all sales must go through the federal government, which is supposed to set up a network of dispensaries and determine prices."

In fairness, the number of people lining up to kill President Mujica for having the audacity to be President while Black and a non-Republican probably isn't that high.

Is this because Obama was a very wealthy man and flew about on private planes his entire life?

The security exists because of the shots taken at Kennedy, Ford, and Reagan.
