Anyone else here been watching the show? I am a bit late to the party and am still in the middle of season 1, but am largely enjoying it so far. Recently it got renewed for a 3rd season.

If you did not grow up in that era where the Karate Kid movies came out, then I could see this sequel-series would be nothing special. You would not connect to the characters or know their backgrounds. A lot of the inside jokes and references also would not make sense. Plus, there are problems like occasional bad acting, writing, and such. Overall still, for those of us that enjoyed the original Karate Kid, this series seems a fun addition to the franchise. It is partly told from the villain's perspective, partly from the hero's (Daniel Larusso), so in effect there is a sympathetic effect towards both characters, even when they are antagonistic towards each other.

There is also the theme about how different the world is now compared to the 1980's, in terms of technology and social skills among kids. Larusso's kids and their classmates/friends are living a life of luxury where everything has been handed to them, they have not had to work to achieve them, especially like Daniel had to when he was a teenager. In the Cobra Kai, however, they train to fight and endure for what they get.

Any other fans, or not-fans, of this series?
