A good point was made by Alcoholic Actuary here.

For conservatives:

Official ID and registration required to exercise the right to vote = excellent idea promoting freedom and liberty
Official ID and registration required to exercise the right to bear arms = nazi germany

oh dear, I poe'd my own thread :o

What I'd like to see is fake gun clubs popping up in the states that require ID at the polls. But not student IDs, gun club IDs are okay.

While I'm pro-gun I don't align with most of their other pets issues. However they could argue we don't have as much a right to vote as bear arms. Afterall the right to vote isn't in the bill of rights. Here's an interesting article about the right to vote.

Two forms of identification?

"I have my temporary driver's license - and - my astronaut application form... I didn't pass that though, I failed everything but the date of birth. "

It is harder to vote in this country than to own a gun. I guess because one is a more serious responsibility?
