Some people like Duck Duck Go because it doesn't track you and keep your history, etc, but I prefer Google.... e.g. today on my android phone I looked up a website that I saw on an ad on a shop's noticeboard... then I was starting to type in the url on my Chrome browser on my computer and it predicted the url...

Google spies on you in myriad ways.

Google Search: Every search you put into Google is recorded as part of your browsing history.
Google Chrome: If you are signed into Chrome with a Google account, your entire browsing history is sent to Google.
Gmail: Google can read all of your messages, incoming and outgoing.
Google Analytics: almost every website you visit runs a bit of Javascript that tells Google you've visited and what you're doing on that site.
Google Recaptcha: same sort of thing as GA.
Google Maps: Google tracks you everywhere you go and keeps a record of your travel history.
Google Home: Google listens to everything you say.

Google knows more about you than your closest friend or family member. They know things about you that you don't even know yourself.

So yeah, they can anticipate your actions in surprising ways.
