Cry Wolf Project: "Exposing myths about the economy and government"

From About the Cry Wolf Project | Cry Wolf Project
Throughout American history virtually every legislative initiative for progressive reform has been achieved only after bitter struggle by citizens, workers and advocates demanding fundamental rights and protections. In each case, they were met with claims that the proposal will “kill jobs,” generate a stifling government bureaucracy, or curtail economic growth.

The Cry Wolf Project is a network of advocates, researchers and scholars dedicated to demonstrating that, in fact, conservatives and business groups are only "crying wolf" to delay, prevent and weaken important and common sense regulations that save lives, clean our environment and make our families more secure.
That's just the US -- I wouldn't be surprised if it happens elsewhere in the world.

Issues | Cry Wolf Project has everything from Auto Emissions to Drug Safety to Mine Safety to Taxes to Workplace Safety

It even has some stuff on the Triangle Fire | Cry Wolf Project -- the  Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911.

Its culprits are the usual suspects, with some others like Democrats | Cry Wolf Project.

Quotes | Cry Wolf Project is a searchable database. You can search by issues, laws, themes, culprits, dates, and keywords. Like Quotes | Cry Wolf Project -- the Triangle Fire
"Notwithstanding all the talk of a probable exodus of manufacturing interests the commission has not found a single case of a manufacturer intending to leave the State because of the enforcement of the factory laws."
- Factory Investigating Commission
vs.
"We are of the opinion that if the present recommendations are insisted upon…factories will be driven from the city, labor will be compelled to accompany them, factories, tenements, and small houses will become tenantless with the final result of demoralization in tax collections by the city. What is wanted is evolution and not revolution."
- Resolution adopted by the United Real Estate Owners Association’s against the Factory Investigating Commission laws.

I couldn't find any renewable-energy ones, however.

Well, I'll remind you that the premise of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" was that eventually the wolf came and nobody was paying attention, so the boy got himself eaten.

Wasn't Karl Marx like the king of economic doomsayers?

Maybe it was Malthus.

Well, I guess this means Marxists and neo-Malthusians everywhere should STFU.

Looking at that site I find:

http://crywolfproject.org/commentary/las-living-wage-ordinance-isnt-job-killer

Oops--you have captive travelers you can royally screw. Mandated higher wages are not going to cause anything but more screwing.

The article refers to a living wage. If we live in a society where people cannot afford to do grocery shopping because companies wish to maximize their profits then lots of food shops will close down. Low wages does not equate to company savings. Paying satisfactory wages is one factor that can improve moral. Since the money for the work is better the worker appreciates he is better paid and as he is in a better frame of mind his work is less error free and more likely to be efficient.

The man who predicted the Wall Street crash was perhaps a doomsayer.

After all the US led wars did nothing to affect the economy (not improve its healthcare services).
