I don't see a lot of talk in this forum about theatre so thought I'd start a catch all thread for people to talk about their past, present, and future experiences with it.

I attended my first major production as an adult in 2012 when I was about 26, which was The Great Gatsby in a theatre in town here. A few years later I decided to check out The Stratford Festival which is about an hour drive from here, and offers mostly world-class showings of classical plays.

Over the coming few years I saw a bit of Shakespeare, and a sprinkling of other stuff until I saw John Gabriel Borkman by Ibsen last fall. The play absolutely blew me away and cemented my love and interest in theatre.

This season at The Stratford Festival I've now seen a production of Bacchae, Timon of Athens, and The Changeling, which will likely wrap up my year.

Went to an interesting series of one act performances yesterday evening. Eight local theater groups were challenged to wright a play in just 24 hours, which had to include certain things like: someone must remain seated at all times, one performer must not speak, at least one line must be sung, there must be a Star Wars reference, an article of clothing must be removed, a strange prop must be used, the audience must be made to wave, and something about a shoe I can't remember.

Remarkably creative for performances composed and performed in just one day.

Experiences with theatre today:

1) Log on to stratfest website
2) Notice the Oscar Wilde play I was considering seeing is showing tonight at 8
3) Brief internal debate about whether I'd rather leave the couch, or stay on the couch
4) Still on couch

Might put on one of the DVDs I've bought from the festival, though.

You're too young to act like an old man. I'd recommend going to the play.

:D

More seriously I was considering attending in August after our wedding's through. Although along with that there's the fact that I've seen 7 shows at the festival in the past three years. So slightly burnt out on theatre.

Instead I took the 90 dollars I saved, showed up at Indigo, and bought a bunch of business books.
