So Facebook is about as secure as a mattress on the roof of a car that isn't tied down. Occasionally you'll see a post that says "Ignore my messages, account was hacked".
Currently, I just really don't have the time to fish through everything and was hoping someone here has answers. My mother had her account "hacked", though I don't know if that term is correct. She had the typical Messenger message "Hey click this!" from a friend. She clicked this. So then all of these messages shoot out to all of her friends. She said something else popped up that said there was something corrupt... which is what worries me the most, because could be a fake windows popup that executes something... but you can't just install things that easily, right?
Is that it? Or does a person have access to her Facebook account? Or did they install malware? On the weekend, I plan on running a check with the malware detector. She just got this computer, so I know that the virus definitions are new, so I have no idea what could have slipped through.
So I guess the bullet point list:
- When someone clicks the thing that sends out all of the PMs, is that the extent of the damage?
- Does it vary?
- Is the PC compromised?
- Why is Congress worried about a monopoly when Facebook's security is the real world threat?
Okay, that third one is a derail.
