Faux Expert

From the article:

If convicted, Simmons could face decades in prison for all counts, including 20 years for wire fraud, 10 years for major fraud against the U.S, and 5 years for false statements.

"20 years for wire fraud." ... good.

"10 years for major fraud against the U.S," ... good.

"5 years for false statements" ... Oh shit! That must have every politician in Washington trying to find cover.

CNN pointed out that Simmons had a pattern of making “extreme and factually dubious” claims about terrorism, including a claim in January that there were “at least 19 paramilitary Muslim training facilities in the United States.”
I can't but believe that FOX knows or deeply suspects this kind of crap doesn't fly but merely airs it for entertainment value. Were they to get sued I suppose they could claim absent malice or some other kind of protection from liability, caveat emptor or something legally similar.

There was this dude some time back who claimed all these military awards. When it went to the supremes SCOTUS ruled he was merely practicing free speech and if you were dumb enough to believe it at face value then suck it up. The guy had no such awards and was just taking advantage of people's stupidity and confirmation bias.

It looks like a good portion of this guy's punnishment is for some kind of real estate scam.

But how much time in prison can you get for embellishing your resume and talking out of your ass?

I know that impersonating an authority figure (police officers, judges etc.) is a crime but it is news to me that impersonating an EX-authority figure is just as bad. And criminal talking out of your ass? Weird.

:D Yup. The Justice Department will have a full time job if they ever discover internet forums.

I don't think he was busted for that, but for fraud

In Fox's defence, this is their being fair and balanced. They have people with legitimate military and intelligence experience on their programs, so it's only fair that they balance that out with people who have fake experience.

If they limited their guest lists to those who know what they're talking about there's a chance they'd end up with substantiative and informative discussions and that would completely undercut their entire business model.
