In Georgia we have two Senate races this time.
- A regular race where John Ossoff, a 33 year old almost-Congressman is challenging the Republican incumbent David Purdue. Ossoff is currently trailing in the polls, but not by much.

- A special election because Johnny Isakson is resigning for health reasons.

The special election is far more interesting not only because it is an empty seat but because it is a "jungle primary". All candidates are on the ballot in November, and the top tow finishers, regardless of party, advance to the runoff.

Unfortunately, pretty much everyone in both the state and national party has backed Ralph Warnock, a Baptist pastor of all people, for the seat. He is however, currently running in the fourth place in a recent poll.

In order to save troubled campaign of the preacherman, Matt Lieberman (yes, he's the son of Joe Lieberman!) has to be destroyed. And what better to use to do that than the smear tactic du jour - allege racism. He is being pressured to withdraw because a character in a novel he wrote is racist.

Seriously! Joseph McCarthy has nothing on the Georgia NAACP! Even he didn't accuse Hollywood screenwriters of being communist just because they had a communist character in some screenplay!

Just for that witch hunt, I hope ML prevails over RW, who has his own issues.

First of all... have you read the book? That's an actual question.

As I understand it it isn't just "a character" in the book who is racist, it is the protagonist who also happens to be the narrator. You can have books with racist characters with meanings and messages that aren't racist and you can have books with racist characters with meanings and messages that are racist. So which is this one?

Really? Is THAT what McCarthy was doing in his hearings, "asking" people to not work in government jobs because of their political views? Get a grip, dude.

If this poll is accurate, there will be a run off between the two Republicans. As you know, to win in Georgia, one needs to have more than 50% of the vote. The two with who get the most votes will be in the run off, as far as I know.

I'm not going to vote for a Baptist pastor who has refused to give up his job as pastor, so maybe he should drop out. I actually like Tarver the best, but it looks like he's not gaining much support. It looks like we are going to be stuck with one of the two asshole Republicans. Warnock should have stayed out of politics. And while I am very fond of Stacey Abrams and support most of her policy positions, she should never have endorsed Warnock. He's not qualified to be Senator.

Now, Loeffler is using Abrams as a way to defeat Collins. She has an add with a photo of Stacey hugging Collins when the two of them worked together to pass a 1 cent sales tax to be used for infrastructure. Dog helps us!

No, I have not red it. From the description though, it does seem like a bizarre novel.

What I am concerned is the timing. The denunciation of Lieberman by NAACP and Nikema Williams, the chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia, came days after the poll I referenced to above . It seems like politics of personal destruction against Lieberman with the goal of saving the chosen candidate.

And Raphael Warnock is the "chosen candidate". He has been endorsed by dozens of both Georgia and national Democrats. What baffles me is why he commands such universal support by the party. I am guessing it has to do with Stacey Abrams being in his corner from the beginning. Truly, Abrams should have ran herself, but at that time she still harbored delusions that she could be Veep.

In any case, Warnock is a bizarre candidate for the Democratic Party to rally behind. He is not only a Baptist pastor, but he has no plans to vacate the pulpit if elected. Then comes the fact that he is cagey about his birth date. We don't even know if he is born in 1969 or 1970. What's up with that?

Really? Is THAT what McCarthy was doing in his hearings, "asking" people to not work in government jobs because of their political views? Get a grip, dude.
As far as I understand, he pressured studios into blacklisting communist writers. NAACP and Nekima Williams are trying to blacklist Lieberman because of a character in a novel he wrote.

Joseph McCarthy was vicious demagogue who had no qualms about ruining the lives of people. Equating asking someone to leave a race for having written a racist character is not even close to anything Senator McCarthey did.

While I agree the NAACP request is wrong, your equating that request with Senator McCarthy was worthy of Senator McCarthy.

I haven't paid much attention to the Senate races yet. I wouldn't vote for Warnock whose only qualification to be a Senator is that he is a Baptist minister. I was disappointed that Stacy Abrams didn't run for the Senate.

I want any Trump supporters to lose, naturally. Trump's incompetence is now killing people. Beyond that, Leoffer's main qualification for being a Senator is not only blind support for incompetence and criminality in the presidency but that she pledged to use 10 million dollars of her own money to get re-elected.

She toes the Republican, movement conservative, and neoliberal line. In an interview she said that she believes that BLM is not a civil rights organization but a political one because Act Blue is raising money for BLM, among other organizations, and Act Blue also raises money for the Democrats. These types of organizations prefer to fund raise through Act Blue not because of politics but because Act Blue doesn't keep a percentage of the donations like the DNC and the RNC and most other fundraising organizations do. Private enterprise fundraisers keep 40 to 60% of the donations that they solicit.

That you and other conservatives and blacks react to cries of racism is why they still exist. It is understandable for blacks, they have suffered for centuries from the unfair concept of racism. They want it to disappear. But for you and other whites to cry that they are suffering from 'reverse' racism and your go-to evidence of how you are grievously harmed is that Harvard and a handful of other private universities slightly lower their admission standards for minority students. While ignoring that they admit many more whites under reduced admission standards for legacy students, the children of major donors, and athletes.

Racism and the other facets of the culture wars still exist because you and other white and religious fundamentalist conservatives are willing to vote for the people who keep the culture wars going in order to get you to do what they would never do themselves, to vote to lower their incomes to guarantee higher profits for the already rich investor class. Conservatives' votes for the cultural war means that they are surrendering in the much larger and more important class war being waged against them. Ämerican conservatives are the victims of modern public choice theory, the theory of how to obtain unpopular economic goals through political means, mainly by lying and misdirection, i.e. propaganda.

I know that you read a lot. Have you somehow missed reading about modern public choice theory? I know that I had, although I knew that something like it had to exist, something more academic than Justice Lewis Powell's 1971 memorandum pointing out, in today's terms, that the wealthy owned the media and if they wanted neoliberalism to succeed that they could use the power of the media to sell it.

Reading James Buchanan and Gordon Turllock's The Calculus of Consent, the bible of modern public choice theory, is not something that young libertarians should do. Like the divinity students who realize that God doesn't exist too late in their studies when they have so much time and effort invested in their studies they can't throw away, that they still become priests anyway, this book lays bare the rational for libertarianism in the starkest terms that only those with too much ego, time and effort invested will still be a libertarian after reading it.
