So many others in white nationalism had come to their conclusions out of anger and fear, but Derek tended to like most people he met, regardless of race. Instead, he sought out logic and science to confirm his worldview, reading studies from conservative think tanks about biological differences between races, IQ disparities and rates of violent crime committed by blacks against whites. One night in April 2011, Derek noticed a message posted to all students at 1:56 a.m. It was written by someone Derek didn’t know — an upperclassman who had been researching terrorist groups online when he stumbled across a familiar face.

“Have you seen this man?” the message read, and beneath those words was a picture that was unmistakable. The red hair. The cowboy hat.

“Derek black: white supremacist, radio host…new college student???” the post read. “How do we as a community respond?”

How they responded is very satisfying. This college experience played a critical role in changing Derek's mind. Can you imagine if the far left SJWs had their way? They would've protested a liberal college granting admission to someone like Derek, likely driving him into the arms of the white supremacists. Free speech needs to be valued at colleges because the best way to challenge bad ideas is with good ideas, not by banning them.

He tried to convince Don for a few hours at the restaurant. He told him about white privilege and repeated the scientific studies about institutionalized racism. He mentioned the great Islamic societies that had developed algebra and predicted a lunar eclipse.

Oh oh, he now sounds like the far left SJWs that you blame for fueling white nationalism. Yet, funny how he instead blames himself for his time as a white nationalist.

He said that now, as he recognized strains of white nationalism spreading into mainstream politics, he felt accountable. “It’s not just that I was wrong. It’s that it caused real damage,”

It really is amazing how the main problems with white nationalism are all due to the liberal groups who have nothing to do with white nationalism. I guess that's because since it's not PC to talk about the white man's burden in regards to other races anymore, so we're forced to shoulder that burden for the lesser members of our own race instead of for the lesser races.

It was a good article, but I don't see that it was as much free speech or ideas that changed his views as it was living with a Jew and minorities and finding he liked them.

It was interesting that after he came out, his family, including mother and sisters, acted like a cult and ostracized him. His father was the exception, and I wonder how that will affect his standing in his world, especially after being interviewed for a story that was very positive for the son. I'll check in on Stormfront later.
