I am looking for the name of an extinct species of small deer that lived on a Mediterranean island
It had fangs like a musk Deer

and a multitude of spike like horns all over the top of it's head like a veritable crown of thorns
Any idea what deer (or maybe antelope) is?

That is a picture of a musk deer.. once thought extinct, but does still exist.
a predecessor of the giraffe (not deer) is ampelomeryx... it looks like a deer, has the 'crown' you describe, as well as elongated canines.

I am not sure if that is it, the creature I am thinking of had horns that were more spike like. Also it was rather tiny. It was found on an island. The article that I read about it held it up as an example of island dwarfism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insular_dwarfism it's spikes were thought to be a defense against predatory birds
