There seems to be little in the way of asking employers to be responsible for skirting laws. I don't think the right wing politicians really want their to be much less illegals here at all. They just want them to be docile. They even want their status to be a landmine for their demands for humane on the job treatment. Terrorizing on the border is a great way to get this done.
There are also are a couple things that I have noticed that may help employers keep illegals working for them. They are having janitorial/dishwashing and similar jobs contracted out to third party agencies. That way they can say that they use E-verify for all "employees".
The union I belong to demanded in the new contract that the employer would not go above legal requirements to try to find out if current employees were undocumented.
