A Christian couple in Western Michigan has been charged with murder after allegedly starving their 10-month-old baby to death, reports WOOD TV.
Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari, both 27, both told investigators that they noticed their baby daughter was gaunt but that they did not reach out for help because they feared their three children would be “removed by Child Protective Services,” and that they did not trust the medical establishment. They reportedly said they didn’t seek medical help partly for religious reasons.
“They’re priesthoods of the medical cult,” Seth Welch had said of doctors in a rambling Facebook video.
Welch had also posted about his daughter’s death on Facebook.
“Heart is about shattered right now. Woke up to Mary dead in her bed this morning – this evening had our children removed and placed on ‘no contact’ because Tati and I are the worst parents ever – Thankfully they are with grandma and grandpa,” he wrote. “Just numb inside right now. And I’m really enjoying the loving embrace of an isolation cell from the cops and government employees who keep assuring me ‘they are only here to help.'”
Welch is also apparently a Trump supporter, quoting the Art of the Deal on his page.
The family runs a farm north of Grand Rapids.
The deeply religious family had decorated the farm, which includes a U-Pick, with signs that read “Repent. Believe. Obey.”
