More Pedophiles, this time in Mississippi

"Every case of abuse represents shattered lives and damaged families and communities," Kopacz said. "I hope that releasing this list will demonstrate a new level of transparency and a sincere desire to accompany victims of sexual abuse as our God of compassion and justice demands. I apologize to all the victims of abuse, to their families and to the faithful who have been hurt by this scandal."

These guys must be reading from a script. They seem to be giving their followers the good priest/bad priest treatment. It truly astounds me how a person could be so clueless as to continue to give money to this organization. Supporting charitable causes is one thing. Giving money to the RCC is not giving money to a charitable cause. How many times does this need to be demonstrated?

I get so tired of these people coming out doing their little fake "I'm sorry, we stood by, let perverts fondle your kids. Please forgive us for doing everything we could to protect our name instead of our parishioners children."

What a sick self-absorbed bunch of hypocrites.

If they want to really do something about this they would have the abusers and those who hide them through the years march up to the police station and turn themselves in. Both are guilty, because the person hiding them conspired to let them continue on someone else's child.

Ya, every instance of it reeks way to much of "It sucks that we got caught, so we're going to pretend to give a shit until people get around to forgetting about this … has that happened yet? Can you give us money again?"

The Catholic Church is the largest non-government provider of health care services in the world.
It provides support to more than 25% of all HIV treatment, care, and support throughout the world.
Catholics ARE the Church. And "The Church" gives money to the sick, the poor, the homeless, the hungry.

Saying that Catholics give their money to The Church, is the same as saying they give the money to themselves.

Ya, but it is actually possible to do all that shit without covering up child rape.

That’s where they failed and all the people giving them money for charitable works can give that money to any other organization also doing charitable works while not also covering up child rapes.

It’s like if the local mafia is joining in on a fundraising drive to clean up trash on the streets. One can participate in that fundraising drive by giving money to any of the other organizations involved and you don’t have to go through the local mobsters in order to have people pick up garbage littering the area.

Somehow nailing to a cross seems more appropriate.

In point of fact that is exactly what they do, give it to themselves. The RCC may be the "largest" but it's contribution is relatively small. 95% of all moneys stay with the princes of the church.

What is your point exactly, that rapists, pedophiles and criminals that go to church on sunday aren't rapists, pedophiles and criminals?

Truth be known the parishioners give the money to the church who then pays it to those other parishioners who sue them for screwing their children.

A few years back, when the Boston Diocese was sued for child molesting and covering it up. They had a whopping big judgment against them.
During the annual Bishop's Appeal, the Church asked for donations to the charity-of-the-year, same as always.
The congregations were uncomfortable with that. The lay leaders came forward and asked 'How can we be sure that our charity donations are going to the charity, and not to the court-ordered reparations?"
They were pretty worried about this, to the point of organizing a boycott of the fund drive unless and until they could get someone in place to monitor the disposition of the money.
The Church got quite upset about the parishioners having the temerity to question the integrity of the Church leadership. How DARE they act like they had a say in the spending!?!?

The fact that the RCC refused oversight might be a pretty strong indication that they intended to spend the money differently than the charitable catholics intended, but it could also just be more of the RCC acting like a law unto themselves, with the rank and file parishioners being a resource, not actual members.

Kind of gives new meaning to the concept of indulgences.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes an indulgence as "a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and all of the saints".

Ironic, though, that the one receiving the indulgence is the one asking for forgiveness for their indulgences. There's gotta be a better way to get to heaven.

It's odd, isn't it? But it is quite revealing in terms of how loyalty operates. I'm certain there are numerous other institutions to which money could be given, institutions that spend far higher percentages of the dollar on actual charitable work. Yet parishioners just don't think of this. "Thou shalt not think outside the box" is perhaps the greatest commandment within the RCC. Centuries of selection pressure seem to have made it so.

In my own family this behavior is quite common. I'm absolutely certain there is nothing the RCC could do that would elicit disloyalty to it's priestly masters. Maybe it's because the allure of a personal heavenly paradise is so strong, and the fear of losing same is so terrifying that disobedience is just not an option. Quite sad. It's like choosing to remain enslaved, choosing to cling to an abusive guardian at all costs because a personal heavenly reward is perceived to hang in the balance. Tis the power of woo I suppose even if it means the children have to suffer and be abused. That's really sad.

How else should one deal with an omnipotent but irrational and vindictive entity than bribery?

Bullshit. Theu took so many years to even acknowledge AIDS and then spent decades trying to stop condom use in Africa that they are literally directly responsible for people getting aids and dying from it. Bullshit.
care, and support throughout the world.

And spends that money tying to DENY health overage to people who need reproductive care. They will never make up for the damage they did (and still do) in denying people family planning and protection from STDs.

Yeah, they totally get all that money back and the homeless all drink out of those golden chalices in the abbys and cathedrals, and get housing with the value of the golden plates in every altar and the billions of golden objects in the Vatican. Oh, and yeah, they pay the money to themselves as reparations for raping boys and girls all over the world.

Is this supposed to be a joke? The Roman Church has waged a war on humanity for many centuries, and I cannot think of a single organization that has inflicted more suffering on our species over the course of history. Even today, the Roman Church advocates for the criminalization of homosexual behavior, and against the use of condoms in a continent that has been ravaged by AIDS for half a century. Ironic you should mention the Church comforting AIDS patients, don't you think?

Watched an RCC priest on a news segment today on sex abuse.

The idea that one priest can absolve another priest for anything short circuiting civil law is so absolutely bullshit. They are equivocating. If they admit civil law trumps their religious practices it admits fallibility. Something the RCC can never do.

Theology wise confession has no biblical basis as to trumping civil law.

I was getting discussed listening to the priest. Exceptions are made for pedophilia.

How is the proximity to and private time with children arranged?

How much of this is related to Altar Boys?

I think that as an example Altar Boys should be stopped but not by government, by a grassroots movement of the parents. Similar to how Jew and Muslim parents should grassroot themselves out of male circumcision. Fuck this nonsense.

Vote with your feet.

You want a religion, fine. Just try and have it less damaging.

Emperor Palpatine, er, ex-pope Benedict, blames secularization of the West and the 1960s sexual revolution for all of this clerical sex abuse.

Right, none of this was happening before the 60's. Buy a freaking clue.

Lol... it's not a new critique. John Knox wrote scathing critiques of the popes conduct in the 16'th century. He must know this. It's not exactly a secret. John Knox was annoyed, not so much because the pope had sex with prostitutes, but because the pope didn't have the decency to hide it. This has been going on for a long time.

There's also been treatises written on homosexuality in the church throughout the ages. Always as internal critiques about how to deal with this endemic problem. So certainly no secret. Everybody knows that if you had a gay son he had a career in the church ahead of him.

My conclusion is that ex-pope Benedict is lying on purpose.
