Over the past several years I had played less than half an hour of Minecraft total.

Then I noticed that my local Christian bookstore had the following books:

The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: Life of Jesus
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: The Cross and the Miracle
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: The Jesus Followers
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: Heroes and Villains
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: Life of Moses
The Unofficial Bible For Minecrafters: Adventures of Paul
NIRV Minecrafters Bible
Building Faith Block By Block

I might use a similar low-polygon art style for my long term game project:

I'd watched dozens of Minecraft videos on YouTube so I thought I'd play it.

I think creative mode is kind of like cheating... (how you can spawn anything - even spawner "eggs")

I thought the following video was interesting.... it talks about "struggling for motivation". Many people have played thousands of hours of Minecraft....

Its points:

Don't cheat
Room for expansion
Don't set an end goal
Variety of projects
Know what you like
Don't overstretch
Adjust the rules of the game to your playstyle
Focus on details
Mindless projects
Divide world into districts
Watch a bunch of videos
Download worlds
Get inspired
Datapacks/microblocks
Share with others
Do something you don't normally do
Spring clean
Just open the game "sometimes I can really struggle with just starting the game"
Take a break
Time for a fresh start
Never delete a world
Play with a good bunch of people "we all motivate each other together"

Other stuff about Minecraft:
It is the most popular game of all time
Microsoft bought Mojang and the Minecraft IP for US$2.5 billion

BTW what surprised me is you can't easily avoid the consequences of making mistakes. e.g. I made a mistake and I tried using ALT-F4 to quit straight away but it had automatically saved it....
