After the Golden State run last year I started enjoying basketball quite a bit, so think I'm going to buy an NBA TV subscription package this winter and follow along until Cleveland plays Golden State in the finals again.

I don't know much about basketball or the NBA, or how much interest there is at this forum, but here's a thread to chat anyway.

Go Cavs and James. Beat Golden State again! The Cavs waited until the playoffs to hit hard. We'll see how the regular season with a healthy squad looks this year.

With the Indians in the World Series, Cleveland is becoming prouder and that may give some more enthusiasm to the team, not to win one for a sports city with nothing to show, but because Cleveland has become a city of champions.

It should have been illegal for Durant to go to GS.

Turns out the NBA League Pass is very, very not good. I bought it to use with the app on my Roku TV, and the Roku app does just short of nothing at all. I tried to use it's 'classic games' section, no go. Tonight I tried to do something as simple as pull up a live game, I got irrelevant error messages and couldn't get the game to start.

Really amazing that they tried to take 150 of my dollars for a service that doesn't work at all. Luckily I'm still able to process a refund.

My Android Box will have to suffice.

I've had NBA League Pass for several years and love it. Don't know about Roku TV though. I only use it for live games.

Which app do you use? The Roku TV app should have the passes normal functionality, but the first time I used it when I tried to bring up a live game it wouldn't even open. I also tried to watch some classic games and they wouldn't really play either. I probably should have given it a few more days but was worried about burning 150 bucks for nothing so I just cancelled.

I suspect Roku represents a small portion of their customer base so they haven't focused on it's functionality. It's a shame because I'd love to have a working app playable from my TV.

Try unplugging the Roku and rebooting it. That seems to work when an app is sucking.

It's built directly into my TV. Haven't had problems with any other apps besides the NBA one. Maybe I'll contact their customer service and see if I can give it another try. I think it might actually be the app itself, though, given all the reviews I read around the time. It's possible that they've updated since then, though.

Unfortunately, my other TV doesn't even support the app (or NHL Gamecentre Live for that matter). I was able to find a pretty good quality free stream for the Warriors/Cavs last night, but the picture was a bit poor. Would be nice to get a clean stream going with decent picture.

edit: I just remembered that with the app I don't even have access to playoffs.. so really what's the point.

You may be right about Roku = small market share, I don't know. We just get ours as part of a DirecTV package. Can't help you with Roku.

I think my cable package automatically includes NBA TV (I didn't subscribe to it, but I get it somehow). I think their programming is the worst of all the networks covering the NBA - and that includes TNT which is also atrocious.

NBA TV is included on many cable packages IIRC. It's not the same as NBA League Pass, which shows every NBA game being played in live streaming. Exceptions are games being shown on other channels which you may have access to, such as TNT or NBA Network.

League Pass picks up the local markets' feeds, so you can generally watch either the Cleveland channel or the Golden State channel, for one example, assuming that is the game you're interested in.

I've been a big Dallas Mavericks fan for the last 25 years or so, going back to when I met my wife who has been a fan longer than I. The Mavericks aren't doing well these days, but in the meantime I've just become an NBA fan in general, and I've subscribed to League Pass for about 5 years. It's fun to compare the play-by-play and color announcers in the different cities, among other things.

Makes sense, thanks.

I will say that basketball more than any other sport holds my interest in individual players more than teams. I've been a Kevin Durant fan ever since his days at Texas. Same for Steph Curry and Lebron James. But I can't say I even watched a Cleveland game when Lebron was in Miami. I still watch a bit of OKC because of Westbrook, but I'm starting to lose interest.

So are all things still pointing to Cleveland/GS in the finals?

Must be hard for 95% of the NBA's fan-base to watch irrelevant basketball year after year.

Thought about getting League Pass to watch on my computer just for the finals, then remembered it doesn't offer the playoffs. What a POS service.

Anywho, looking forward to the NBA season getting started. Will have to head to the bar.

Golden State is on a tear, though they manhandled a very hurt Spurs franchise. Irving is coming into his own again, which will make it hard to sweep the Cavs aside. James had 6 bad consecutive quarters and some people were dancing in the streets like they were at Half-time in the last Super Bowl, we remember how that finished.
Cavs are one win away from heading to the finals healthy for the second straight year. Have to give the edge to Golden State, but the Cavs probably won't make it easy.
