Neil Peart, Legendary Drummer For The Band Rush, Has Passed Away

 
 
 
We lost a giant in Neil Peart.

Rush was the first band I ever saw in concert. They were the opening act for Aerosmith in 1978 in my hometown arena.
 
I recently finished his book Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road, kind of a journal he wrote while travelling across North America on his motorcycle after tragically losing both his daughter and wife within less than a year.
RIP to IMHO the greatest rock drummer of all time.
 
This one hurts for a couple of reasons. I was a fan, and while I wasn't a super-fan that followed them around I saw them live several times over the span of 30 years...including their last tour.

I saw that show just a couple weeks after a friend and co-worker lost his life to the same form of brain cancer.

I had a friend that died of brain cancer. Don't know what form of cancer it was but it's a pretty shitty way to go.

We still have his cat.
 
Not only an amazing drummer, but one of the best lyricists in rock.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is
 
I never listened to Rush. I heard one or two songs on the radio, mainly their big hit Tom Sawyer. KLOS dedicated the afternoon show to Rush and played stuff from various albums and it was pretty good, I enjoyed it.
