AOC found this interesting tidbit:
Patrisse Cullors-Brignac on Instagram: “I’ve spent the last 24 hours processing what it means for #BlackLivesMatter to be nominated for the #NobelPeacePrize @nobelprize_org ...”
I’ve spent the last 24 hours processing what it means for #BlackLivesMatter to be nominated for the #NobelPeacePrize @nobelprize_org - I’ve thought a lot about #TrayvonMartin and @sybrinafulton. I’ve thought about my own family, Monte Cullors and my father, and my mother. I’ve thought about how for hundreds of years Black folks have been fighting for our freedom. How every generation pushes the world to see the trauma of white supremacy and the absolute urgency to root it out of our society so that Black people can not just survive but thrive. If our movement wins the Nobel Peace Prize it’s because millions of people, over the last 7 years, have showed up to continue the fight for Black liberation.

I’m grateful for all the organizations, and individuals that make up this movement. It took all of us. Every single one of us.

How Stacey Abrams and Jared Kushner got nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize - CNNPolitics
Here's the thing: Being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is a LOT different than actually winning it. Mostly because a whole lot of people can nominate you to be in the running.

Here's who can put forward someone for the peace prize, according to the Nobel website:

"These nominations will be submitted by members of national assemblies, governments, and international courts of law; university chancellors, professors of social science, history, philosophy, law and theology; leaders of peace research institutes and institutes of foreign affairs; previous Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; board members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; present and past members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee; and former advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Institute."

Greta Thunberg, WHO, Kremlin Critic Among Nobel Peace Prize Nominees - Thousands of people, from members of parliaments worldwide to former winners, are eligible to propose candidates.

WHO = World Health Organization
Kremlin Critic = Vladimir Putin opponent Alexei Navalny

Among previous nominees was ex-President Donald Trump. Norwegian lawmaker nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize - he was one of 210 people and 107 orgs nominated.

Being nominated is far from winning, especially when one considers who can nominate.

Yeah, it's definitely an instance where being nominated is not an "honor" and means absolutely nothing. Hitler was nominated. It was a joke and the guy who nominated him cancelled it, but it still proves that there is zero criteria or vetting in who can be nominated and only requires a single person to submit the name and that nominator themselves need not be anyone of any real consequence or credibility.

In fact, winning really doesn't mean that much either, given some of the questionable winners, and that includes giving it to Obama less than 10 months after he took office.
