So there seems to be a war of words between the far-left (and newly enlarged) Squad and Barack Obama. He wrote this.
Obama cautions activists against using 'defund the police' slogan
Example Cori Bush:
[tweet]<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">With all due respect, Mr. President—let’s talk about losing people. We lost Michael Brown Jr. We lost Breonna Taylor. We’re losing our loved ones to police violence.<br><br>It’s not a slogan. It’s a mandate for keeping our people alive. Defund the police. <a href="https://t.co/Wsxp1Y1bBi">https://t.co/Wsxp1Y1bBi</a></p>— Cori Bush (@CoriBush) <a href="https://twitter.com/CoriBush/status/1333955011475365888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 2, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>[/tweet]
"We" lost Michael Brown? No, that robber attacked a police officer and the officer defended himself.
Breonna Taylor is different is that it was an accidental shooting, but how much do anti-police activists want to milk that one? Very few police shootings are like Breonna Taylor's. Most are like this guy
Bronx police shootout kills man wanted for shooting Massachusetts state trooper
Or how about Ayaana Presely.
[tweet]<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The murders of generations of unarmed Black folks by police have been horrific. Lives are at stake daily so I’m out of patience with critiques of the language of activists.<br><br>Whatever a grieving family says is their truth.<br><br>And I’ll never stop fighting for their justice & healing.</p>— Ayanna Pressley (@AyannaPressley) <a href="https://twitter.com/AyannaPressley/status/1333979353458335744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 2, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>[/tweet]
One of the more idiotic statements from a Squad member, who are known for making idiotic statements. Most black people who are killed are killed by black civilians, not by police. And vast majority of police killings are justified and not "murder".
Lastly, things either are or are not. There is no my truth and your truth. For example, Keith Lamont Scott either had a book or a gun. Turns out he had a gun. The claim that he had a book turned out to be a lie, not anybody's truth. To say that whatever the families are saying is their "truth" is the same as saying that the statement "Trump won the election" is his "truth".
The sergeant herself offered her take as well:
[tweet]<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">What if activists aren’t PR firms for politicians & their demands are bc police budgets are exploding, community resources are shrinking to bankroll it, & ppl brought this up for ages but it wasn’t until they said “defund” that comfortable people started paying attn to brutality</p>— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) <a href="https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1334181687811600384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 2, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>[/tweet]
A bit of a rambling screed across three tweets concluding with the oft repeated sow that the point of protesting is to make people uncomfortable. Forgetting that she and her squad are in government now and if you make voters uncomfortable, you lose elections. Dems lost seats in the House, failed to win Senate (so far) and the presidential election was much closer than it should have been because AOC and her allies insisted on making people uncomfortable with extremists demands.
The rare male member of the anti-police squad, Private 2nd class Jamaal Bowman, revealed the true endgame of the defund movement: free shit for himself and those of a similar skin color for no other reason than that skin color:
[TWEET]<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">All this backlash to "Defund The Police?" How fast are people gonna fold when we get serious about reparations?</p>— Jamaal Bowman (@JamaalBowmanNY) <a href="https://twitter.com/JamaalBowmanNY/status/1326662833095004162?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 11, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>[/TWEET]
It goes like this:
Phase 1. Defund police
Phase 2. ???
Phase 3. Reparations
Phase 4. Profit!
Obama cautions activists against using 'defund the police' slogan
And despite being largely sympathetic to the goals and motivations of the "defund" movement, the Squad descended on him like a pack of hyenas.CNN said:"If you believe, as I do, that we should be able to reform the criminal justice system so that it's not biased and treats everybody fairly, I guess you can use a snappy slogan like 'Defund The Police,' but, you know, you lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you're actually going to get the changes you want done," Obama told Peter Hamby on Snapchat's "Good Luck America" when asked what his advice is to an activist who believes in using the slogan although politicians are likely to avoid it.
"But if you instead say, 'Let's reform the police department so that everybody's being treated fairly, you know, divert young people from getting into crime, and if there was a homeless guy, can maybe we send a mental health worker there instead of an armed unit that could end up resulting in a tragedy?' Suddenly, a whole bunch of folks who might not otherwise listen to you are listening to you."
