This all ended in 1980 with the election of the Reagan.

Things were falling apart long before then. My father was active in politics as a Republican in the 60s--and had abandoned them by the 70s because they had changed so much. (Admittedly, a move to a more conservative state sped this process up.)

I don't disagree with you.

The Republican party of Eisenhower was reeling after Nixon and ended with Reagan's election.

The Republican party today is not a party that cares the least about those crushed by modern capitalism.

It is almost entirely a party that represents corporate interests.
