A federal judge on Friday dismissed with prejudice a lawsuit filed by One America News Network's owners that accused Rachel Maddow and MSNBC of defamation.
The conservative television network sued Maddow for more than $10 million in September for calling it "paid Russian propaganda."
...
"Considering the totality of the circumstances — including the general context of the statements, the specific context of the statements, and the statements’ susceptibility of being proven true or false — a reasonable factfinder could only conclude that the statement was one of opinion not fact," U.S. District Court Judge Cynthia Bashant summarized in her ruling.
...
Friday's ruling stated, in part: "[The] Court finds that the contested statement is an opinion that cannot serve as the basis for a defamation claim. Plaintiff has not shown a probability of succeeding on its defamation claims, thus, the Court GRANTS Defendants’ Special Motion to Strike…. Because there is no set of facts that could support a claim for defamation based on Maddow’s statement, the complaint is dismissed with prejudice. After Defendants’ motion for attorney’s fees is resolved, the Court will instruct the Clerk to close this case."

Many hoots of derision to follow aimed at OANN.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) was dealt a setback in his defamation suit against CNN after failing to convince a judge that the trial should be held in Virginia.
This Friday, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Payne decided the case is best adjudicated in New York.
As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Nunes is claiming $435 million in damages over what he says was a “demonstrably false hit piece” about a meeting between him and an ex-Ukrainian prosecutor to dig up dirt on Joe Biden. “CNN’s source is said to be a lawyer for Lev Parnas, an indicted associate of President Donald Trump’s own attorney Rudy Giuliani.

From time to time in American politics, we need some comic relief. Here is some.

On Friday, The Fresno Bee reported that an attorney for Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) says he is at a “dead end” in the legal case to expose the true identity of @DevinCow, a satirical Twitter account that pretends to be a cow belonging to Nunes and continually mocks him.
..
“Judge John Marshall did not issue a ruling on Twitter’s motion. He raised pointed questions about Nunes’ arguments, citing the federal law that broadly protects social media companies from defamation lawsuits,” said the report. “Even if Twitter had done what Nunes alleged, the immunity provided by Section 230 does not depend on whether Twitter is a neutral site, Marshall said. ‘I don’t know of any requirement in the law that says these sites have to be neutral,’ Marshall said. ‘Just because you don’t like it and asked to have them take it down, doesn’t mean they’re liable if they don’t take it down.'”

Well, the answer to Nunes is obvious. We need a contest set up the way Dan Savage ran his re-branding contest on Santorum in '03. Based on Nunes' obsequious servility to Trump, a "Nunes" should be a generic term for the most squalid of service providers. But now me, I'm too delicate to know or suggest what that service might be. It should involve kneeling, but beyond that I just don't have a notion.

Apropos of nothing, my first week in boot camp, the CPO who taught us interior phone comms was not ready to start the lesson right after lunch. Offered my company a 'Navy Nooner.' Told us it was a brief nap in the afternoon, a Navy tradition. We put heads down on desks and zoned out.
Another chief came in, asked what in god's name we were doing. "Chief Sharkey offered us a Navy Nooner!" We almost chorused.
Found out that the term really means a blowjob. 80 seamen insisting the Chief sucked us off.
40 pushups later, i began my history of trust issues.

Don't know why i thought of that.....
