The upcoming Picard TV series on CBS All Access will feature one major difference regarding its titular main character played by Patrick Stewart—he won't be a starship captain. Speaking with Deadline about the current Star Trek revolution being helmed by Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman actor/director Jonathan Frakes revealed this interesting bit of news.

"Patrick isn’t playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard this time, he’s done with [that phase of his career in] Starfleet in this show. That’s about the only thing I do know about the show," he said.

So whoever the captain is might get to say "shut up, Picard!"

Isn't Patrick Stewart approaching 200 years old? Isn't surprising he isn't playing Picard.

or maybe take over the family business as a wine farmer. Fully retired, puttering around the grape fields, then every week being called back to Starfleet
1) because Admiral Riker needs his advice on the new Commandant for the Academy,
2) Captain LaForge can't get the Romulans to sign a peace treaty with the Ferengi unless Picard signs off on it,
3) traveling to Kronos because Chancellor Worf is thinking about turning Rura Penthe into a blood-wine cellar for the quadrant and wants advice on the temperature in the bays...
4) Shaka when the walls fell, Lungha, her sky gray, bubblegum, on the bedpost overnight.
5) And that first-contact planet that told Starfleet to bugger off calls back and asks specifically for Picard. And maybe another bottle of that 'wine' thing he brought last time...?
