That's quite a hate list for a true xtian....

On Sunday afternoon, a man taking part in a Madden N.F.L. 19 qualifying tournament at a bar in Jacksonville, Florida lost a game and took his wrath out on fellow competitors. He fatally shot two people and injured several others before eventually killing himself.
Within hours, Independent Fundamentalist Baptist hate-preacher Adam Fannin of Stedfast Jacksonville Church was ready with a response.
Within the first ten minutes of his sermon, he blamed the shooting on all of the following: Football, beer, anti-Christ religions, people who promote video games, the “Devil’s music,” the bar’s owners, sports bars, strip clubs, Masonic Lodges, casinos, gay bars, abortions, fake churches, false prophets, the Catholic Church, less fundamentalist Baptists, perverts, pedophiles, and atheists.
Not making his list? Guns.

Read his full nasty rant at http://friendlyatheist.patheos.com/...or-jacksonville-shooting/#3h9EqWab6yqGoqQb.99

Well, to be fair, if it wasn't for the pedophile Masonic atheists over at the local strip club who talked him into putting down his Bible and picking up a video game controller in exchange for the promise of free abortions for any of his future girlfriends, he wouldn't have been at the tournament in the first place.

The truly sad thing is that, as a professional video game player, he wasn't ever going to be getting a girlfriend, so he sold his soul for nothing. :(

I don't see taking prayer out of the public schools in that list -- did the preacherman have his head up his ass? I assume no prayer in school caused the JFK assassination, Whoopie's Oscar, Hurricane Katrina, and President 45. Am I wrong?

That preacher really needs some psychiatric help. He's obviously fucking nuts. I read his entire rant and it's obvious that he's fucking nuts. Beer? Really? Music of whores? Seriously? I was raised by fundies, including one who suffered from mental illness, but compared to that guy, my parents were sane, even my father. My parents would be appalled by that nut. Is there something in Florida that is making people crazy or what? I guess my parents weren't fundy enough for this crack pot.

I agree guns are not the problem. The culture of civility and community that existed is gone. Kids grow up in a shallow unstable social environment.

Greed and materialism are paramount. Dysfunction is the norm in TV and movies. Violence and gunplay as daily entertainment. It is a form of propaganda and conditioning.
Theists say it is because of rejection of god. I'd say while it was flawed the past culture had an element of civility and morality that acted as a social glue keeping the lid on. That is what religion did in spite of the negatives.

Freedom of speech has come to mean freedom to portray anything for profit regardless of how inhuman, bizarre, and violent.

I watched the movie Hostel on cable. To me it was ugly. Butchery for pleasure. IMO it takes a sick puppy to see that as entertainment.

Guns are part of the problem. They magnify all the rest.

Religion is inherently divisive, guns magnified that too, but agreed that religion had a role in social control - but it was out of fear, not respect for others.

Regardless....if there weren't guns, everything would be less deadly.

So then how about you explain the fact that kids in Japan, who are even more batshit crazy about video games than American kids, aren't running around gunning people down. Same with South Korea. Those nations also love, love, love their horror movies and make quite good ones (very dark, very violent, very graphic). I'm going to suggest that having near zero access to guns and not having a culture that glorifies the use of real, actual guns as a legitimate problem solving tool has something to do with it (I own like 14 guns if that helps my credibility (or hurts it)).

Then don't watch movies like that! I hate musicals, so I don't watch them. But what I don't do is cast aspersions on people who do like musicals. And maybe you should dig into why people like horror movies. It's a really interesting aspect of human psychology.

My 19 year old daughter and I had this conversation literally two hours ago when we were driving home from the grocery store. In her sociology class there's a grumpy elderly lady who complains incessantly about how kids don't respect their elders. We've talked about this before, but it effects her so it's always interesting to me. Basically, the gist is that the older folks love to shit on millennials when in fact millennials are better educated, less violent, and statistically safer than the old folks' generation was at the same age.

And doesn't it get old blaming pop culture for things when it's clearly just the same things that happen in every generation? When I was a teenager it was devil-music causing all of us to worship Satan that was going to take the nation down. At 15, I knew how stupid that was, and at 49, I think it's even dumber now than it was then.

I mean, you do realize that Jack the Ripper happened before horror movies and video games existed, right? As a matter of fact, all of humanity's greatest horrors occurred before the advent of video games and horror movies.
