When a 22-year-old college student was allegedly discriminated against by his new supervisor at work, he recorded multiple tapes to give to the company’s human resources department. Instead of preventing the discrimination in the future, he says the company retaliated against him, NBC Los Angeles reports.
Enrique Garcia was working as a welder at Roofmaster in Monterey Park while studying civil engineering at a local college.
When a new supervisor reportedly called him offensive names, he took out his phone and began recording.
Garcia says he supervisor invoked the racial hatred of President Donald Trump.
“Just like Trump said, they should go back to their sh*thole countries,” he claims his supervisor said.
“The supervisor allegedly calls Garcia, who is Mexican, the N-word on this recording, one of four taken on the same day, according to a lawsuit filed by Garcia against the supervisor and Roofmaster,” NBC LA reported.
After complaining, Garcia says he was further victimized as the company sought to dissuade him from complaining.
“I felt humiliated,” he said. “That was degrading.”
