Republicans Are Planning to Spend $20 Million So Americans Won’t Vote - VICE

The party, backed by President Donald Trump, is spending $20 million on its efforts, which intends to recruit up to 50,000 volunteers in 15 states to “monitor polling places and challenge ballots and voters deemed suspicious,” the Times reports. The money is also intended to fight Democratic-backed lawsuits against alleged voter suppression efforts on the part of Republicans.

Six months before a presidential election in which turnout could matter more than persuasion, the Republican Party, the Trump campaign and conservative activists are mounting an aggressive national effort to shape who gets to vote in November — and whose ballots are counted.

Its premise is that a Republican victory in November is imperiled by widespread voter fraud, a baseless charge embraced by President Trump but repeatedly debunked by research. Democrats and voting rights advocates say the driving factor is politics, not fraud — especially since Mr. Trump’s narrow win in 2016 underscored the potentially crucial value of depressing turnout by Democrats, particularly minorities.

It really is a desperate situation. This party acts in opposition to democracy. The stink will never leave them, but, as an old Sarah Silverman punchline goes, "You can't smell yourself."

This is another reason why we should vote by mail.

I've read about these disgusting Republican plans. Maybe the Democrats should hire workers to watch the polls and make sure that people are allowed to vote without being harassed, if a mail in ballot hasn't been requested or received.
