Scientists have created the perfect music for cats

Anyone who loves music knows how therapeutic it can be, and now researchers have shown that a good melody may have the same affect on cats. But they think our human-tunes suck.

To work out whether cats could respond to music, scientists from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the University of Maryland, both in the US, composed 'cat-centric music'.

Listen to some samples (and short explanations) here: http://musicforcats.com/

Not surprising result. Cats hear at a higher frequency than we do, so their music tastes would also be at a higher frequency. Being at a higher frequency you can also speed it up. Their brains are simpler than ours so they do not want a full orchestra. Hence the result.

So they found music to make cats more excited. The other studies with monkeys showed different music that made them more excited and more relaxed than baseline. The "relaxing" music seems particularly compelling, since excitatory stimuli seems rather easy and common across most species, but auditory stimuli that relaxes them much less so. It seems potentially something you'd only see in animals with more complex emotional subjectivity.

I have been speculating that regardless of "intelligence", cats may have more complex emotions than dogs. This would explain why they seem more "moody". It seems much easier to manipulate dog's moods with immediate stimuli. Whereas cats also show moods but they seem more internally driven and cycle at their own pace. This is what makes them seem "aloof" because we can't control the way they respond and get them to play when we want or calm down when we want. Its on their time and their schedule. These are the qualities that are disliked by cat haters, and loved by cat lovers.

I'll have to play this for my kitty. She will probably not be impressed. I tried fucking with her by playing bird songs and she figured it out in 30 seconds.

Cats are introverts, but Dogs are extroverts?

From my experience different cats are different. Mine is moody (like many cats) and she can be an introvert or extrovert.
