Shale oil isn't worse than regular oil

I'm surprised at this, we keep hearing how much energy is needed to get the oil out of the shale, turns out it isn't an issue.
It depends on which wells you are using for the comparison. Many wells take no energy to get the oil out - the problem is to keep it from coming out under natural pressure too fast (remember the oil fields on fire in Kuwait that had their control valves broken off and were set afire?) Of course there are other old fields that have been pretty much drained and a lot of energy is needed to coax the oil out of the pores in the rock.
