I own an AR-15. If there's a natural disaster in South Carolina where the cops can't protect my neighborhood, my house will be the last one that the gang will come to, because I can defend myself.

Senator Graham was speaking to the Senate when he shocked them with just how bad things have gotten in South Carolina. The Republican Senator noted that the state was simply a single natural disaster away from full out anarchy and societal collapse. It is unclear if the Senator blames the GOP leadership in South Carolina for its plight, but whatever the reason, Sen. Graham noted that things were so bad that, in the case of a natural disaster, he had to ensure the safety of those that lived in his home by having an AR-15. Citing the fear of gangs of presumably white South Carolinians, the Senator felt the only way to be safe in a natural disaster from his own constituents, was to arm his home with a semi-automatic.

It is uncertain if Sen. Cruz later suggested to him to just go to Cancun during a state wide emergency.

This is the serious harm done by all those being sold the line that they can be a single-handed Rambo hero. They think all they need is a gun and it will solve all of their problems in a disaster.

He's telling us that if he runs out of food - no problem, he has a big gun.
If he has no electricity - he just gets out his gun and, what, steals it at gunpoint?
If he has a medical problem, what, his gun forces a doctor to help him?


Yeah, there's a whole lot of privilege in the declaration that at a natural disaster your only worry is people stealing your stuff.
