So, Title 42 expires, so we have a border crisis again (or have had one since the GOP started being outwardly against immigration... though still for immigration).

GOP wants to pretend we can just expel them all.
Democrats want to manage the problem, that is becoming too large in scope to manage without a significant plan.
Alt-righters want to pretend they can eliminate the problem.

McCarthy is angry that over 10,000 people were caught crossing the border in one day and says Biden is failing at border security. If no one was caught, would that be a success?

With DC hopelessly stupid on border security because corporations like illegal immigration... I have a few suggestions.

Step 1: Stop ignoring the problem.
Step 2: Stop ignoring that caring isn't enough to solve the problem.
Step 3: Keep them in Central America and stop their need to move to the US.
Step 4: Spend money to support economic growth in Central America.
Step 5: Decriminalize drugs!

I know, I know, none of this will happen, but this is effectively our only real option. If people can get real jobs locally, they probably would stay at home. If they didn't have the issues regarding drug violence as a result of America's ridiculously failed war on drugs, they might not be as likely to walk up north. We fucked Central America in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. We need to fix that. We need to heal those wounds, and fix the drug related wounds we are also responsible (as a nation) in causing. We owe Central America a few favors!

Sending troops to the border, keeping migrants on the south side of the border, building more wall, ejecting illegals from our country hasn't worked, isn't working, and will continue not working. Sadly, American empathy usually dries up past our borders, and what needs to actually happen will not have the drive behind, because Americans are selfish, naive, and ignorant of America's recent past with Central (and South) America. The solution will cost money, but we are already spending a good deal of money not fixing the problem.

Here is a gifted article on the GOP's planned bill, which is a Frankenstein monster of patch work. The dumbest compromises over the dumbest issues.

Reps. David G. Valadao (R-Calif.), Dan Newhouse (R-Wash.), John S. Duarte (R-Calif.), Cliff Bentz (R-Ore.), Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and several others indicated concerns after the bills were approved by the committees. Many were appeased after leaders moved to amend the legislation to better protect the agriculture workforce, but the provision faced opposition from House Freedom Caucus lawmakers. That prompted an 11th-hour negotiation among leaders and committee chairs as concerned lawmakers threatened to sink a procedural vote Wednesday if their changes were not addressed.

“After many discussions with House leadership, they have committed to addressing the agricultural workforce and E-Verify programs concerns I raised should a final border security bill be sent to the President,” Newhouse wrote in a statement after those talks, confirming he would support the bill.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Tex.) and several other conservatives also raised concerns over labeling cartels as terrorist groups because of a belief it would create more credible asylum claims for migrants. Revoking that provision, however, would have gone against a promise leaders already made to scores of lawmakers who wanted that rule incorporated.

After a three-hour meeting Wednesday with Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), members of the Freedom Caucus left appeased after leaders agreed to establish a commission that would study the best ways for Congress to tackle cartels and whether to designate them terrorist organizations.

“Washington politicians fight to water down my portion of the border security bill that labels cartels as TERRORIST — as gunfire breaks out along the Texas/Mexico border,” Gonzales tweeted in response to the changes .“[Whose] side are they on?”
