The great Carl Reiner has passed at 98

Also, he stayed mentally sharp well into his 90s. What with some comedians living up to the century mark (as opposed to blues, jazz, and rock stars; we'll have to wait 50 years to assess gangsta rap), there must be something to that trope about humor being a life-enhancing and health-enhancing endeavor. I remember reading that centenarians roll with the punches and recover from setbacks better than others -- humor and a sense of the strangeness of existence feed into that.
Carl did some first-rate guesting on Carol Burnett's show, among a thousand other productions -- some of that is on YouTube & worth seeing.
I'm trying to picture a 100-year-old gangsta rapper.

He really was good friends with Mel Brooks, they lived close by and got together almost daily. He was also very active on twitter, posting almost daily up till yesterday. The past week he did get more reminiscent like he knew his time was coming soon. It was Mel's birthday on Sunday.
