Green party candidate Howie Hawkins: Why I'm running against Joe Biden, Donald Trump - YouTube - because Joe Biden is a corporate centrist.

Green Party nominee says Sanders, progressives have failed to pull Democrats to the left | TheHill
Green Party presumptive presidential nominee Howie Hawkins says even progressives such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) have watered down policies espoused by his party and predicts former Vice President Joe Biden (D) has an open lane to the White House in 2020.

...
Hawkins, who clinched his party's nomination Saturday night, told The Hill that he rejects the idea that Sanders and other prominent progressives such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have pushed the Democratic Party to the left in recent years.
As if only the Presidency counts.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on How to Build a Green New Deal - Rolling Stone
What do you say to people who think Democrats aren’t doing enough on climate and who want to support a Green Party candidate in November?

If you want a true third party — a strong Green Party, independent party, et cetera — you need to actually build the party. The presidency doesn’t do that. You need to make sure that you grow those caucuses. That’s, frankly, what a lot of Democratic Socialists of America members are doing across the country. They’re not trying to mount a third-party presidency. They’re capturing city councils and state assemblies and getting things done from the ground up. That happens to be my take. And I do think that the stakes are too high right now. We need to acknowledge that this regime is authoritarian and it’s a threat to a lot of people, and we need to make sure that we elect a Democrat this year.
The Greens have done some of that, but not much: GPUS Elections Database - nearly all elected Greens are those elected to local positions. Also, as far as I can tell, the Greens have not done what the DSA has done: support candidates with its platform who run as Democrats.

Run as Democrats? That is an important part of what Brand New Congress's founders wanted that PAC to act like: a political party, but one that runs its candidates in the two main parties. Its first slate of candidates, in 2018, had 28 of its candidates running as Democrats, 1 running as a Republican, and 1 running as an Independent. Of these 9 won primaries, all Democrats, and 1 won the general election: AOC.

But BNC's primary losers nevertheless do better than most Green candidates for Congress: they have a median vote percentage of around 20%.

Anyone who claims that the dems haven't moved to the left is either a liar or dumber than shit. Biden is to the left of Clinton, Obama and HRC. Substantially to their left. These people are either being disingenuous or are Trump tools

I decided to compare the Green Party's platform with those of some run-as-Democrats organizations and politicians.
The platforms have a lot of overlap, though some of them have planks that others lack, like about Puerto Rico.

I could go line by line through these platforms, but I think I'll skip that for now.

That's a separate issue.

Well, if you read the quotes above, the green party is running because they believe that Biden is a right winger and the dems haven't moved at all to the left. They are deluded.

They are tools. Don't know if it is deliberate or if they are useful idiots but they are tools.

Recently, yes, and it may seem like empty posturing.

But how far left? Consider Medicare for All. The Green Party and the Bernie Sanders clique (BS, AOC, BNC, JD, OR) all support it, but Joe Biden says that he would veto it.

Because no one who isn't dumb as rocks actually believes Biden when he says those things.

I've prepared this composite platform from the platform pages of Bernie Sanders, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Katie Porter, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, Brand New Congress, and Justice Democrats:

I looked through the Green Party platform, and much of that party's platform agrees with that composite platform, though it has extra details like DC statehood and environmental details.

All the politicians I've listed are Democrats with only one exception: Bernie Sanders. All the support organizations I've listed have only supported Democrats, with the exception of a Republican and an Independent that Brand New Congress had once supported.

 Electoral history of Bernie Sanders
  • 1972: US Senate - Liberty Union - failed
  • 1972: VT Governor - Liberty Union - failed
  • 1974: US Senate - Liberty Union - failed
  • 1976: VT Governor - Liberty Union - failed
  • 1981: Burlington VT Mayor - Independent
  • 1983: Burlington VT Mayor - Independent
  • 1985: Burlington VT Mayor - Independent
  • 1986: VT Governor - Independent - failed
  • 1987: Burlington VT Mayor - Independent
  • 1988: US House - Independent - failed
  • 1990: US House - (primary) Democratic - failed - (main) Independent
  • 1992: US House - Independent
  • 1994: US House - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 1996: US House - (primary) Democratic - failed - (main) Independent
  • 1998: US House - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 2000: US House - (primary) Democratic - failed - (main) Independent
  • 2002: US House - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 2004: US House - (primary) Democratic - failed - (main) Independent
  • 2006: US Senate - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 2012: US Senate - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 2016: US President - (primary) Democratic - failed
  • 2018: US Senate - (primary) Democratic - (main) Independent
  • 2020: US President - (primary) Democratic - failed
BS started out in the democratic socialist  Liberty Union Party and he ran in that party over 1972 - 1976. But starting in 1981, he ran in primaries as a Democrat and in main elections as an Independent. In Congress, he caucuses with the Democrats. So he is a sort of half-Democrat.
