Well, it's just that there's a hierarchy of loyalty which they follow

Loyalty to self.
Loyalty to rich donors.
Loyalty to Party.
Loyalty to friends.

...

...

Loyalty to country.
Loyalty to truth.


It's only hypocrisy if their loyalty to the truth and to their country are a higher priority than their other loyalties. If not, they're just being consistent.

It isn't magic at all. This is the result of decades of dogged hard work.


Remember, these are the folks who pledge to "take our country back" in every election cycle where they're not the incumbent. They genuinely believe that when a Democrat is in the White House or the Democrats are in control of either or both houses of Congress, something has gone terribly wrong.

They genuinely believe that the United States of America is a fundamentally conservative nation, and as such believe they are the only ones who can rightfully lay claim to governing.

They've spent so much time and effort equating conservatism with "American values" and making the GOP out to be the official Party Of America that they've begun to believe that any government not headed by them is illegitimate.

This extends now (apparently) to behavior.

Where ones prioritization lies might sometimes be better judged by intermediate term results than short term actions.
