The Sun is Standing Still

And in a couple more days it will awaken and begin it's return. So I think it is entirely appropriate that in these latitudes we recognize and celebrate this heavenly event.

In another day or so we can set our calendars, know when it is time to plant our crops, when and where to find and harvest game, when to expect fertilizing floods for our fields, when to prepare for an arrival of growth and abundance.

Not much has really changed over the millenia.

A leetle bit has changed. Where before we had standing stones to tell us when the sun reached the shortest day, to reset the calendar, now we use the calendar to tell us when to schedule the trip to go marvel at the standing stones.
