Trump Speech to a Jewish Conservative Group Condemned as Anti-Semitic | Ed Brayton
noting
Head of Jewish Democratic Council of America denounces Trump speech as anti-Semitic – Raw Story
“He has said in the past that he wants Jews to be the ones counting his money,” Halie Soifer told Salon. “He has repeatedly made references to what has been a very negative stereotype of Jews and money and power.” After saying that “I think that he must believe it, and that is why he continues to repeat it,” Soifer noted that Trump was repeating claims that he has made when “typically speaking extemporaneously, and clearly he’s speaking from his heart. It’s clear that there’s quite a bit of hatred in it.” Soifer also criticized Trump for having “views of Jews as driven largely by money, which is why he said at this events that Jews have no choice but to support him, referring to tax cuts.”

...
Soifer’s comment about Trump saying he wanted Jews to be the ones counting his money is based on a 1991 book by John O’Donnell, the former president of Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, who quoted Trump as saying “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day. … I think that the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault, because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.” The president initially denied his remarks but later told Playboy in 1997 that “the stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true.”
Ed Brayton:
Trump has talked many times about Jews and their love of money and how that’s why they’ll support him, to protect their money because they’re all rich. It’s like speaking to the NAACP and talking about how they love watermelon and fried chicken. Just nothing but bigoted tropes created to put an entire group into a single simplistic profile.

You know... I don't believe everything I read. The Internet is full of garbage claims. So when I saw the Tweets, I was skeptical because what he said was unbelievably wrong.

And when I finally clicked on a link to the Tweet, I saw that it included the video of him saying these things... and I'm left wondering... what in the heck does McConnell and the GOP have against them right now that allows them to defend this asshole?

Who the heck goes to a group of people, tells them they are not nice people, and then explains that they'll support him because of racial stereotypes?

Better question, who chants “four more years” after he says those things?

I try to avoid these Israel/Palestinian threads because they just become a blood bath. But I think the absolute opposite of what Trump is pushing (not surprising). There really are only two options in Israel: the one state solution or the two state solution. In a two-state solution (which is what most democrats favor); Israel will have a country, but will have to pull back from some of the West Bank areas and give Palestinians a real sovereign state. But in a one state solution, Palestinians will eventually have equal political status, and there will be no more Israel. The country will probably become very similar to Lebanon, erupting into major bloody civil wars, instability, and etc.

It might be that the one-state solution is the only solution. However, to encourage Israel to not seek compromise is not helping Israel long term.

The people who are conspicuously absent in this thread?

These Jews know they own his ass, he is a yip dog they are laughing at.

There's an infamous clip of Trump speaking to a Jewish audience -- was it as candidate Trump, in '16? -- and going on about how he knows that "this crowd" is full of deal makers. And he didn't get boos, although there had to be some squirming in the audience. (You hear some laughter instead from the crowd.) It's like he expected Jews to rub thumb and fingers together and gloat about the shekels to be made in a Trump economy. Jeebus Christ.
